Root suggestions for first time root

Pics are stored usually on your SD card and they are untouched by the wipe. I'm not sure about the SMS thing though.
 
Awsme awsome awsome thank you so mmuch everybody my god you guys make this far easier then it seemed and my epic is running like greased lighting....I don't know what standard quadrant or linpack scores for you are but I jumped from like a 13-1400 to over 2000 on quadrant and everything seems so streamlined I love my ROM love my root....will do this for any future phone (hopefully the galaxy s 2) thanks to you guys and all the awsme developers (acs and the like)
