Suggestions for MSN Messenger

Hello,

I have a rooted Hero running 2.3 and Cyan 7. Looking for ideas on which MSN messenger program you have found drains the battery the least. I am using MSN Talk now. From looking at my battery stats it appears it keeps my phone awake quite a bit.

Any ideas would be helpful.
Thanks!

I use MSN Talk for MSN Messenger chatting too. Are you sure it is keeping your handset awake or maybe just maintaining a constant data connection in the background?

By nature of an instant messaging app, it will have to maintain that data connection to be able to receive instant messages and indicate that you are still connected. Unfortunately, this is at the expense of the battery life of your handset.

Thanks for the reply. When I go in to look at my battery stats under settings it indicated that the phone is awake all of the time when I have MSN talk on. However MSN Talk was only a tiny fraction of the usage stats (less than 5%). Perhaps this was the time I was actually chatting? Display shows as the biggest pull on the battery.

I swapped to Mercury to compare and uninstalled MSN Talk so it looks like I lost the stats for MSN Talk under Spare Parts when I uninstalled.

Yeah, anything that puts a constant wake lock on your handset will definitely drain the battery faster. Way back when the Sprint HTC Hero was released there used to be a nasty bug that kept it in a constant state of wake lock.

Sprint and HTC did manage to stamp that bug out pretty fast though. Let us know if the new app you are trying is any better.
