Root SUPER HARD Freeze Problem - Rooted with MikG 3.0.X

Hello Everyone...

Having an issue with my EVO LTE rooted running MikG Viper 3.0.X ROM...

I'll call it a "hard freeze"....not just an app that I can kill but the entire phone locked. Gotta hold down the power button to reboot.

I was using the phone last night and my Chomp SMS froze...hard freeze with the phone...could not kill app so rebooted. Same thing happened again...tried to start up, I see the ROM splash screen, see my home page populating icons and shortcuts, can unlock and swipe around for just a short while but then SOLID LOCK again.

Questions...

(1) Any fix to this?? I have been using the phone with ZERO major changes to ROM or settings or apps and have been smoooooth for a long time and then these hard freezes. I tried to clear cache and dalvik in recovery and reboot but same issues. I have a recovery I can go back to but it is from AUGUST 4, 2013. I have my pictures and my calendar/contacts syncs but would rather not go back 2 months :(

(2) I have most of my pictures but some screenshots I wanted to keep that are on the INTERNAL phone, not the external card. Is there any way I can get into the recovery files or something saved on my external card to get the images?? I backed up this morning the MESSED UP state of the phone with the hopes of being able to do so.

Thanks for your help!!

Scott

Hey there,
Sorry you are having this issue........Did you have this issue right after flashing the rom? Or did it just start doing it all of a sudden?

Maybe a dirty flash of the rom might help.....Just wrote dalvik cache and cache and flash the rom again.

Hey Old Friend, how have you been!?? :):):)

Issue was NOT right after flashing ROM...been many many months (perhaps a year) with the ROM on with no issues.

Wasn't doing anything special with the phone...install or anything...just move around, checking messages and then the freeze.

Questions: (1) any "risk" to lose anything if I "dirty flash" the ROM??

(2) Not sure I have the full version of the ROM I am currently running can I flash the update or does it have to be the full ZIP of the current version I'm using??

Thanks!

Make a nandroid first then do a dirty flash and flash the full version(not familiar with the rom, so I could be wrong)...and this is why you do a dirty flash sd it does not wipe data so you will not loose stuff.

Thank you...will try in a bit!

BTW...got happy-ish that after a couple wipes of cache/dalvik, the phone booted up and stayed functioning for few hours. But then it froze hard again. There is definitely an issue here.

Thanks!

"Dirty flash" didn't seem to make a difference at first as I was still experiencing the freeze. As I watched the start-up after the flash, however, my Nova Launcher quit and the propagation of my Minimalistic Text icons seems to stall/stutter/be slow.

During startup and before the freeze I was able to quickly navigate to Titanium Backup and reinstall those apps (took a couple attempts with the freezes!). For the moment....since that app reinstall...I haven't had a freeze like before.

So, perhaps combination of dirty flash and app reinstalls might have done something, for now....

Thanks!

if you are gonna reinstall your apps then you might want to just do a full wipe and re-flash.

just curious have you tried viper? i would recommend it, but that is up to you.

Sorry for late reply...was away without kids for first time in 8 years!!:D:D:D

(and I was in Mexico for a bit by the way :smokingsomb::smokingsomb::smokingsomb: :D )

Anyway, the "dirty flash" worked and I was only reinstalling a couple apps that seemed to be affecting the startup. I've made a couple Nandroids so I'm in (I hope!) pretty good shape if any issues arise.

I have not tried Viper but, at this point in time with life being so busy, I'm just "chill" with what I have. Would love LOVE to experiment and flash some things to play with but just don't have the time at the moment.

If...IF...I did try Viper and I have a Nandroid of my MikG v3.X, can I just simply flash my backup and be back where I left off with MikG v3.X??

Do you happen to have a Viper link?? I just searched real quick and couldn't find....thanks!!
