Root Super IO Kernel VS Voodoo 5

Just as the thread titles says, how does the super I/O kernel compare to a JK6 or JL1 kernel with voodoo 5? Or maybe you can run voodoo 5 on top of super IO? I really have no idea. Maybe someone who has tried both could shed some light?

Well after a day of no replies, I decided to just test it myself. So far I can't tell if the super IO kernel is actually faster, or if it is the OCLF V2+ (was running V1+) that is making the difference. I may try to get voodoo to work with OCLF V2+ and see what the differences are. (I'm also now running Nero V1 in place of Axura 2.2 just to see how it compares)

One thing to remember about both VooDoo and SuperIO:

They're designed to *BE* the lag fix, not work with another one.

Okay, so after a day of testing one, and a day of testing the other, it would seem that Voodoo 5 + OCLF v1 is roughly the same as Super I/O with OCLF V2.2. Super I/O did have slightly better battery life, and seemed a bit more stable. However, I would imagine that if you could run the voodoo kernel with OCLF V2.2 that it would be faster than super I/O with V2.2. This is merely speculation, based on deductive reasoning, because I did find that with just OCLF, and a stock kernel that V2.2 is faster than V1. So for what is out there right now, without overclock, Super I/O Kernel + OCLF V2.2 seems to be the best choice I can find. If any of you have found something faster, better, more stable, etc. Please do not hesitate to post up.

I honestly don't know which is faster, as I've avoided VooDoo due to the issues with flashing (I'm lazy, I know ;->).

My point, though, was that by design neither VooDoo nor SuperIO are designed to work with an additional lag fix. (And it's been proven enough that most of the non-filesystem/kernel lag fixes tend to be just "score boosters" and not true speedups)

To me, though, fast + battery wins out over just fast anyday ;->

Side note: Apparently, when you decide that Gingerbread is enough of a "daily driver", you'll need VooDoo or another Ext4 mod: No more RFS support in the kernel.

so i have a question. im trying to get my lagfix on and am currently using nero v1 but when i install the ext2 tools and its all good to go i cant install any of the lagfixes. Im not sure why but when i try to put oclf v1 on there is says " you do not have enough free space in /data to use this fix please free up space before using this fix." so does that mean i need to wipe my data folder, or am i way off base with that?
I would say im competent in my phone and how to not screw it up and even if i do i can always odin to stock and start over. advice?
thank you

First. If you aren't using voodoo, use V2.2+ its much better. Try rebooting in to recovery and clearing user data, and cache. Back up your data before you do this, just in case. I had this same problem on Onyx V4. I'm on Nero V1 Final now.

Yeah! so i just odin to stock. Decided that i was going to try out macnut r2 or whatever but when i went to dl it well it was going to be 1hr and some change to dl 100mb of data..sooooo yeah wont be supporting that rom till dl speeds are half that time, lol. SO after odin i reroot and got nero v1 back on all that stuff and set back up to how i had it, then did the steps to get ready for 2.2 and POW! double my speed easy. thanks for the help. How is voodoo anyways, im a fraid of it cause you have to disable it and if you do it wrong im sure ill end up doing ANOTHER odin and i dont feel like setting everything back up. also how do oc kernels work if you happen to know. im just really trying to understand all the different aspects of this phone and how to get the most out of it.

thank you

I am using the super IO kernel instead of voodoo. Super IO + OCLF V2.2 is a very smooth, stable combination on Nero. Speeds are comparable to voodoo + OCLF V1. If you haven't tried the super IO kernel, I recommend it. There is a noticeable speed increase, and your battery life is improved,

would you happen to have a link to super i/o
currently im running with destroyer of worlds 1.2gh kernel from team whiskey and while my quad scores have jumped enormously i am finding that it might be a bit unstable for me atm i dont know cause i dont know a lot about the kernel world although it is becoming easier and easier.
if im locking up and having to reboot a lot then it is a kernel problem?

for anyone checking out these kernels please understand you can mess up the phone if you dont take the time to read the information that is posted at team whiskey. they seemed to have a method to their madness. support these guys and other devs they are tops and should be helped out.

ps stig. i tried to do super i/o but ended up odin to stock and starting over. didnt want to take for some reason. not sure why i might mess with it again another day.
lemme know what you think of tw's kernels
i had quads of 2300+ with 2.2v oclf enabled with that.

tried a couple of the DoW kernels out. Blazing fast, and my battery hated it, but with 1.4 clock I hit 3002 in quad. I'm back on super IO, though. I can't find any reason to run at 1.4 right now. Plus with super IO my battery life is ridiculous. Been running for 26 hours now, moderate use, 39% remaining.

Nero v2 is out. and i think v3 is on the way. v2 is pretty good it has voodoo5 installed with it. quad isnt as high as v1 with 2.2 but its super smooth. cant get enough of this one.
so question. with super i/o so i have to use set cpu and have a min max setting or how does it work. i was going to give it another shot tomorrow at some point.
yeah 1.4 seemed like a drainer

I'm on JL5 with voodoo now, but if Eugene ever makes a JL4 or newer based super IO kernel, I'll be all over it.

EDIT: Oh and yes, I know that super IO is not an overclock kernel, but you can use set cpu to clock down to save battery.

little bit of a newb here, but i installed voodoo5 stable for 2.2 and am running auxora. Feels pretty smooth but quad scores are low (1500) and mflops are around 15.

Is this normal? Think i should try to run the OCLF on top of the voodoo lag fix? Thanks for the help guys/gals, these forums are amazing!

It's 500 higher then a stock vib. I know that with nero v3 with voodoo5 im at 1600-1700 and for me thats fine its still silky smooth. Quad is nice to see where you stand i guess, but if its like butter i wouldnt sweat it to bad.
I am wondering how the gingerbread is going to work out on the phone. to nervous to try it out atm.
I was running Auxora for a little while and its a good rom. I was still in the dark about lagfixes when i was running it so it might speed things up if you do the oclf 2+ option. just dont forget to disable voodoo first. Guess it will soft brick ya and its back to square one.

You can run EXT2 over EXT4. But not the other way around. You have to disable OCLF, install voodoo, then run OCLF again. Only V1 though, and to be honest, I have found that, while your quadrant score will be higher, you will experience more lag if you do this. In strange places, too.
