Supersonic is EVO 4G Available Summer

I get the feeling that Grand Rapids is getting 4g for the same reason they get everything else. Devos or Van Andel probably donated money to build the network. As for Detroit, the metro area still has a very high per capita income. Awhile back Oakland county was the richest in the nation.

It actually has to do with a contract the city had with clearwire prior to the clearwire/sprint merger. They are supposed to be providing data services to the police/ems/fire stations and in return I think the city helped fund it.

whatever the reason, it's a win for GR Sprint customers... i for one see little incentive to get an EVO 4G if I can't get 4G service... my Nexus does all the same things... same processor speed (Snapdragon 1GHz)... same resolution (yeah, smaller screen, but still plenty big and still very pocketable - something that is a question mark for me with the EVO)... I have my Nexus rooted, running the Desire ROM, so I get Sense, same as the EVO... Flash works pretty good...

and one BIG looming question still with the EVO... BATTERY LIFE... no one knows how good or bad it will be... typically CDMA phones are a bit worse on battery life than their GSM counterparts (with the same processor, etc). That 4.3" screen has got to be a bigger power draw than the 3.7" AMOLED... but we don't know for sure... I've got a 1600MAh battery in my Nexus (Seidio aftermarket) and it's still not super great if I use it heavily and do a lot of browsing and video watching... throw in a few calls and it makes for a top-up before end of day as it is... I can't imagine the EVO being better... but again, will have to wait and see once it releases...

Cannot possibly be worse than my last phone (palm pre)

HAHAHHAAH YUUP! If you have a Pre now, anything is an improvement in terms of battery life.

My thoughts exactly. It can't possibly be worse than the Pre. Not a doubt in my mind that we will all be charging every night though. I will really miss the touchstone though... :(

Interestingly, I wish HTC would create a "solar" back plate so we can charge our phones just by flipping it over. I think this is the most practical, wireless, and cleanest charging method...sort of like this:

Imagine just flipping over your phone to charge it or even charge it while you're using it because the back would be exposed to the sun?? I'd love that

Am I the only one who thinks the Pre has decent battery compared to similar devices? Not stellar but as long as I don't just leave Wifi on and set email to only come in as it is sent, my battery does fine. I take it off the charger when I get up and then when I get home from work I usually have 60-75% left. If I use it a lot I may be down to like 25-35% when I get home so I charge it back up if I plan on going out that night.

This is pretty much on par with my old HTC phones and seems similar to my iPhone friends. They always run out of battery by midnight or 1am if we go out to the bars on a Friday night. Seems to be just the way things are with large touch screens, 3G radios, etc.

Thats not a bad idea at all.

That's pretty cool.

I've owned an htc dash and a wing, a razr, a couple of nextels, 2 blackberrys and a pre. None of them had a battery as bad as the pre. I should be able to charge my phone at night and not have to worry about it until I go to bed again. I even have twitter on my blackberry now updating every 5 minutes and 2 email addresses being pushed and I still have plenty of juice at bedtime.

Yeah I guess you're right that the batteries today have to deal with so much more...faster processors, memory hungry applications, Wifi radios, GPS, bigger screens etc. I just think that battery technology development and innovation isn't moving as fast as the rest of the technology around it. I mean the whole nanowire battery technology is great but I have yet to hear any practical application of it in mobile devices. I guess some of us were spoiled by our older gadgets that held a charge for much much longer times. I remember my old moto startac that held a charge for a WHOLE week. And my older Treo 755p - i swear I only charged it like every 4 DAYS. Now my Pre sits on 3 different touchstones (home, car, work) LOL

Mine gets me to around 10pm with wifi, gps, bt on and the Seidio 1350mah battery. I'm not impressed, but my Centro was the same. I miss the 3200mah battery on my Treo which lasted a 3 days :D.
