Help Support 10bit Video

Hei S3 users,

I heard that Quadcore is able to handle 10bit video. Can you try it? Probably download an anime it animetake (Gundam AGE, or Aquarion EVOL, or any other with 10bit in the title) and install MX Player. See if it can play it smoothly.

I am trying to gauge my tablet future needs. If Quad Core Exynos can play 10bit video, that 10.1 Note Tab looks interesting :)

I will be doing this ASAP after release as part of my usual "video playback shoot-out" that I run all handsets through, added 10Bit test files about 6 weeks ago. I would think they should play OK, my Note can play up to 720p 10Bit files pretty smoothly, but does get choppy on 1080p playback (bad enough it's unwatchable). Will upload a youtube video to demonstrate.

NZtechfreak,

will wait the result :)

In meantime, what is the 720p 10bit video you can play on your note and using what player? I have been throwing 720p 10bit videos at MX Player and it mostly stutters...

Dice Player, I generally find it's hardware acceleration is better than MX Player (often MX Players software decoding is better than Dice though).

While I haven't used any players on this phone yet (since I don't have it, thanks VZW!), I have played with many different ones my Toshiba Excite tablet. Here's my experience:

Diceplayer
----------
Pros: best interface IMO, excellent hardware acceleration, good SMB support
Cons: no DTS support anymore, and even when it had DTS support, it had issues. It also seems to be abandoned by the developer, as he no longer responds to emails or support requests in the Google groups board. Because of this, I don't recommend buying it.

MXplayer
---------
Pros: good interface, good software acceleration (except on Tegra3 devices)
Cons: poor hardware acceleration support, unstable SW acceleration on Tegra3 devices for some reason (even they don't seem to know why), no DTS support anymore either. That said, the devoloper seems very responsive in the Google groups board, so that is a good sign. They also say they are working on their own custom HW acceleration framework, so their HW acceleration should improve greatly in the future.

BSplayer
--------
Pros: excellent hardware acceleration, DTS support, good SMB support, good SW acceleration
Cons: the video screen UI isn't as good as Diceplayer or MXplayer, and seek swipe gesture doesn't work as well as Diceplayer. Neither are a deal-breaker though IMO

All the rest I tried aren't really worth mentioning. They either had showstopping bugs, abysmal interface and/or lack of proper hardware acceleration.

At any rate, BSplayer is my current player of choice. If they improved the video screen UI and swipe gestures, it could easily be the best out there. Most importantly, it is the best when it comes to handling many different types of videos, both with HW and SW acceleration.
