[SUPPORT] "E: can't mount sdcard" error?

TheBritton

Resident Galaxy Cat
I had been using Link2SD on the SD card in my old Motorola Triumph which required the SD card have two partitions. This same SD card worked great in the Galaxy S2 when I first bought it.

With the Galaxy S2 having 16GB internal memory, I wouldn't be needing additional internal memory. So I removed the extra partition I created with MiniTool Partition Wizard. Then I formatted the SD card.

Upon returning the SD card to the phone, it wouldn't mount. E:Can't mount /sdcard. I have tried several methods to format the SD card (didn't know what file system was correct, tried NTFS, FAT, FAT32). Including formatting within recovery. Nothing has worked. It can mount with an SD adapter in my desktop computer as well as my netbook but now my phone will not see it or mount it. Any suggestions?

Try going to start -> right click on "my computer" -> manage -> disk management. From here try reformatting to Fat32 or NTFS by right clicking on the partition.

I've tried with MiniTool Partition Wizard, but not Windows. I'll try that. If it doesn't work, I'll repartition the SD card the way it was haha

I think they are set as FAT32 by default, but NTFS allows for files over 4GB to be transferred at once. Not sure why it would show up on the computer and not in the phone, have you tried restarting the phone?

Thanks for your help notebooko! :)

I see this issue is pretty common with people after unpartioning. Most threads about it never did lead to an answer. Luckily, I found this link on XDA and I tried it.

EDIT: The link was actually posted as a possible way of enhancing SD cards and not as a solution to this issue, but it looked like it might help and sure enough it was the only thing that worked in my case. I hope the people in the other threads eventually found a solution. Most people I saw actually just bought new sdcards.

Haha, I may even try this on my own SD card!

WELL..... WELL ........
What most of you guys are saying is true but has anyone considered the situation where you are to deal with a phone having an internal sd [samsung google nexus s]?
I have.....
Now that ur sd card is messed up and not showing neither on the phone nor on ur pc,
1- what u've got to do is to download the latest TWRP recovery
2-Flash it to ur device using fastboot
3- In TWRP recovery mode, Goto WIPE>tick sd card> swipe the slider to proceed
4-To reboot sytem on completion, press "return twice" and select Reboot>System
5-U re DNE!.............
***Good Luck knowing that, u now have regained control :D!!****

SOLVED!! Sounds crazy, but after formatting into every format known to man, even formatting each one as both logical and primary, I have finally found a solution.

After MANY hours I found this: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/

And after I formatted with this, I put it in my phone and BAM it recognized it.

I hope this helps someone else from spending all the hours that I just did LOL!

same problem and same solution .. THANKssssssssssssssss....:):)
