Surprised at video quality

If it was shot with those Owle's, its a moot point anyways. It has a full on glass lens built into it and completely different optics, so thats misleading. Thats like dropping a Corvette engine into a Ford Escort and then telling everyone at a race its a stock Escort  Huge difference.

The Owle would allow the trolley shots and the comparison is probably more like putting racing tires on a given car vs economy tires. The video engine (and optic) is still the stock camera, the lens is an add-on.

BTW folks may be interested to know that the recent update increased video bitrate from 6mbps to 8mbps (mpeg4).

Eh, either way its still very misleading. Those are not being shot with a stock iPhone and several of those shots (especially the time lapse of the lake) were most likely shot with a different camera on a tripod. You can see a noticeable difference in quality from one shot to the next in several of those scenes, its BS.

I'm depress. I was watching on Engadget the Galaxy S for T-Mobil and Verizon hands on and they were showing a video of Avatar on the phones. They looked awesome. Then I tried to watch a video with the EVO and I almost cryed. So choppy. I like my Evo, but I'm starting to feel envy of the quality of the Droid X or the Galaxys. I could trade my EVO for the Epic, but I don't trust Samsung and don 't need a keyboard. Plus I don't like Verizon. I have no choice. I wish they made the Epic like the other Galaxys. :(

how did you watch avatar?

Ah yes, I simply love so-called "experts" like yourself that call out camera shots as if you know what you're talking about. This video was made by two production companies (on in Colorado, the other in So. Cal), who specifically wanted to shoot a 100% iPhone 4 video. They publicized their efforts in several newspapers... so why would they openly shoot with cameras other than the iPhone?

Nice call on the "camera on glide track or rails"... but why couldn't that be an iPhone in the Owle Bubo case? Ever think of that? It comes with the same tripod connection as other cameras? You also call out "still shots" for the same reason, even though the case is able to be mounted to a tripod.

Also, they stated that they had eight iPhones and only four Owle cases... so of course there'd be some footage that's "shakier" than others.

As for your closing statement (after you essentially called the filmmakers "liars") about the Owle case... did the filmmaker ever try to hide his use of the Owle Bubo? Did you ever think that Owle is able to sell such a product because the iPhone has a better camera? Does ANY camera attachment like this exist for ANY Android phone?

Sorry for the rant. But I just HATE when idiots pop off about subjects they know NOTHING about and try to attack the character of someone else. These guys worked their asses off shooting this video... and deserve nothing but praise for it... unless someone has PROOF that they weren't 100% iPhone.

This video is bullsh*t LMAO. I shoot photos and videos for a living and I can tell you there are VERY few scenes in that video that are shot on an iPhone. The opening shot at their feet is shot with some type of camera on a glide track or rails. No way you get that with an iPhone. Look at the difference in quality of the footage of the couple at 55 seconds. First shot at 55 seconds is a video camera on a tripod as its much more clear, detailed and still. Second shot at 56 seconds could be an iphone MAYBE (doubtful) and the 3rd one at 57 seconds you can tell its an iPhone. Notice the jerky hand held motion and the rolling shutter.

Ever heard of "iTimelape Pro"? Yeah, it's an app that shoots... well, I'll let you figure that out. Wow! For someone that makes his/her living in the industry... you might want to pay attention to the technology available. It's a competitive world out there.

Since the iPhone 4 can't make calls, these so-called "film makers" should have just bought a Flip. It's cheaper and shoots better video.

i might be wrong but having a 5mp or 8mp camera will not matter if recording in hd because isnt 720p only 1mp?....

8mp (3264x2448 pixels)
5mp (2592x1944 pixels)
720p (1280x720 pixels)

both cameras run at lower resolution to record at 720p.. maybe the apple camera is a better 1 mp camera..

Ducati Films Motorcycle Commercial Entirely with iPhone 4.

Why can't my Evo do this? The quality is pretty amazing. I paid $ for my Evo and I deserve a better lens and sensor!

Very impressive video, I saw it yesterday.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread and won't hesitate to take action and report as necessary if I see Android bashing OR iPhone bashing. I'm getting sick of the petty little "mine can do it better than yours" childish bickering.

Maybe not one specifically tailored for a specific android phone, however the lens accessories do exist and can easily be fitted to any phone, android or otherwise. All this is is a holder with an add-on lens on it.
