Root SWAC/Employee rooting and Wifi tethering?

PaulHBK

Newbie
I hate to start a new thread but I searched the forum for an answer with no success. I'M a SWAC customer and my fiancee is my sponsor. She is concerned that if I root my Evo and get free Wifi tethering she will possibly get fired if Sprint notices the larger amount of data usage. Has anyone ever heard of a Sprint employee getting fired over rooting their phone?

I want to root but not at the expense of getting my fiancee fired. Any feedback/answers are greatly appreciated...

As far as I know, rooting your phone means nothing more than messing up your warantee. Sprint won't be angry and chastise you or your fiancee for voiding a warantee or doing what you wish with your own possession.

I would agree that I don't think they would fret over rooting the evo since it is legal. However using wireless tether is a different story since technically it is the same as the sprint mobile hotspots which as we all know is 30 bucks per month. Now with that said you should be safe using wireless tether with out them knowing, but I wouldn't go nuts on data usage just incase it raises red flags.

Several sprint employees at my local sprint store have told me that they have rooted their phones. They acknowledge that they voided their warranties. They also say that there's no process in place to check if a phone is rooted when a customer has a warranty issue. In other words, there's no root police.

Of course, what is said and done at my local Sprint store may not be representative of other Sprint stores.
