Root Swapping out blurcamera.apk, is it safe??

Android_LIFE

Android Enthusiast
I am rooted; I have the .516 and .604 Blurcamera.apks
I am one of many on here that have unfortunately adopted some unwanted bugs with the .604 OTA.
I have the dreaded hot pixels or dead pixels bug found when simply opening the camera or camcorder.
Problem pixels also during recorded video playback.

I almost replaced the .604 blurcamera.apk with the .516 apk.
Thought I should play it safe and get some feedback first before pulling the trigger.
So, as the saying goes, "Is IT saaaafe???!?"
The last thing I want to happen is swapping this out and then having a $600 paperweight...
Both apks have identical names, so deleting the 604 then pasting the 516 should work... right??? Hmmmm...

Thoughts?

theoretically it should work. but i don't have big enough balls to venture such a feat. i wish you the best of luck and may the powers of the androids be with you my son.

My plan is to backup everything on my X, and then just do it.
I am going to try. If it bricks, I will take it back to the Verizon here, and return it. My X is already defective, called VZ, they know Im bringing my X back...
At least then if it doesn't fix the issue, other X owners here wont try the same thing and yield the same results.
There's gotta be a way to eliminate this bug, especially with having access to all the directories, thank you root.
I have a Droid1 as a backup device.

I am going to wait a few days before trying anything,
I'd like to get some great feedback here first.

Well if that's the case, then I'd say do it. You will be helping the community, and you don't really have much to lose.

You should include a factory reset in your test since I think that's what mainly bricks the Xs.

I was able to swap out the YouTube.apk with the HQ one from the EVO without any problems. I would hope the camera would work the same way.

I swapped out the blurcamera apk removing the .604 one with .516, rebooted afterwards.
No prevail.
Bug still remains.
Definitely more to just replacing the blurcamera.apk when it comes to this issue.
I read that Motorola has already fixed the hot pixel issue with camera and camcorder in Froyo for DX.
Hurry up and wait as the saying goes :p

Even if you brick it you can re flash with the released sbf to return to store bought state. Hell you can do that to fix the camera just don't let it update afterward. Have you tried another camera app? I heard they don't have the problem. Camera 360 is a good one to try.

My originating post in this thread was created before the sbf was released.
Thanks anyway. :)

I am using replacement apps for the time being...
Camera - Camera360
Camcorder - Qik Video
