Yes this is an old thread, no I don't care for bumping it because I have valuable information that could help users with the same problems you guys faced and the one I seem to not be facing. This is the first result on Google so I might as well post here.
When you just swap the SIM card it seems to work for a limited time, at least that is what I think. Back in August of 2016 I attempted to switch to my Nexus 4 without calling MetroPCS(It's free but I'm lazy) so I just did what any person would do and just swapped the SIM into my Nexus 4. I had to make my own Nano to micro adapter because my Zmax Pro uses nano. The adapter hardly worked but when I got it working my Nexus 4 had full signal and I didn't have to change a thing.
Fast forward to moments before I went on here, I did it again and my device seems to be working just fine - while at the same time my MetroPCS account is unaware that I am not using my Zmax Pro. I will update this thread tomorrow to tell you guys whether or not this has succeeded. The last time I did this my Nexus 4 only worked for about 4 hours before mysteriously losing signal. It could have been my shite DIY adapter(a bad one at that), so that is why I'm doing this. It is no secret that MetroPCS used to SIM lock their phones - but that was because they were CDMA. They are not CDMA anymore and they are fully assimilated with T-Mobile towers. They may be no longer enforcing the SIM lock that we all despise. I will post tomorrow.
