Switch from Eris to Driod?

We own both phones. The Motorola obv is faster and has higher resolution, and has some apps that are 2.0 specific, and obv comes with free navigation, and the battery lasts longer. It has a flash on the camera, but to be honest..... the camera I think stinks on both phones anyway.

However the Eris has it's own selling points. It's light, has sure type as a keyboard option built in, as well as T9. Has more widgets out of the box.

Honestly, if you enjoy your Eris, keep it. Or, try the Motorola for the trial, and then switch back if you want. If you are a heavy user, get the Moto for sure, Eris battery isn't for heavy users.

The only thing I hate about my Moto is the slide out keyboard which adds weight and isn't necessary. I'd love to see the Moto have the same interface as the Eris, then we'd be talking perfect IMO.

But I still will keep my Moto for the speed and battery life. My wife uses the Eris.

these phone have a camera? LOL.. yeah I took one pic with my Eris, for photos I will stick with my DSLR..

Catch is, after today, not more trial, if I switch that is it, I like the Eris, but maybe the Moto is better for me, don't honestly know

I did realize today that holding the phone surfing with one hand it is hard to pich-zoom, the tap make that easier. Also since I will not switch again until my NE2 maybe the Droid screen, processor etc will be better for the next 2 years

Switch to a Droid. You won't regret it it's a ton faster and that alone is worth it. I'm not a huge fan of the Sense UI but if you love it you can always root to get those elements back by a custom UI etc

This weighed on me, too. Spend some quality time in the store rolling around in phones. Get one out of the box and get your hands on it, anchor free. See if any sales reps have a Droid that you can use. Hands-on experience is what persuaded me to give Droid a try, and I'm glad I tried.

Worst case scenario: you get Droid and hate it. Return it in 30 days and get Eris back. I've done this before - they'll fight it, but will do it, at least my local store did. If you don't want to hassle the store, sell Droid on Ebay and pickup a new Eris.

Most Verizon stores absolutely will not allow this. One device switch within your 30 day trial period, that's it. And you don't get another 30 days to evaluate the device you switch to, it's still the original 30 days.

My wife has an Eris and I have the Moto Droid, the battery life on the Eris is pretty bad. To the OP, if you switch to the Moto Droid, you will be very happy with the battery life.

This is absolutely correct. I don't know why people start stating the contrary as gospel truth. Maybe one slacker who hates his job and is planning on quitting will let you do it, but 99.9999% of Verizon employees won't.

I myself had the Eris after switching to it from the stupid Nokia Twist dumbphone. After a short period of time, I regretted not going with the Droid. I tried switching again, and was met with a big fat NO from 3 stores. So I ended up selling the Eris on Craigslist for a pretty good price and buying a Droid from Walmart. I have never regretted it for a second. My wife has the Eris, and loves it. So, to each their own, really.

To OP:

SO WHAT DID YOU DECIDE??

You'd have to return the Eris and go back to your old phone. Once the old phone is activated, you're back to your old situation - end of contract, eligible for upgrade. Then you play the game again a week or so later. I feel a little guilty for doing this, and it's not my habit, but when VZ gets plenty of money from me during a 2 yr contract that covers much more than the cost of phone and service, then I don't feel so bad. I just want a phone I'm going to like for 2 years.

Good luck!

Okay, next question is when will the Moto Droid get flash support?

I need to decide to today is it is my last day of my 30 day exchange..

They are so similar.. maybe I need to go there after work and have them get one out for me..
Droid. I went through this same thing two weeks ago. The ERIS is almost perfect except for the lag. It took me about one hour to appreciate the Droid. I actually had the Droid first then thought the ERIS would be better and that I wouldn't mind the lag. WRONG. Once I got the Droid back I can really say that I made the best decision. As far as the keyboard goes, I have larger hands. I don't use it too often, but when I do I just make sure I'm more exact I'm my typing. In my opinion the onscreen keyboard is better that the ERIS, even with the added features of the ERIS screen keyboard. Okay that's my two cents.

Went back to VZW store.. Spent an hour there playing with the Droid, made a call on the droid. played some more with the menus, Web etc.

Talked to the Rep I bought my Eris from too. Found out it would be $100 more ( which I new) plus a $35 restocking fee (I didn't know)

In the End, I stuck with the Eris, I do like this phone, with it on at 6:30 and of at 11pm I am usually at 50% battery life so the battery is not really and issue and honestly, ever since the Jan update to my Phone the battery has been improved quite noticeably

So I also got an extra $20 off since the Eris is now $179 (-100 MIR) and I when I bought it, it was $199 (-100 MIR) plus my NE2 $50 so in the end, I got a nice Smart phone for $30. I think I did good..

I will say the Moto Droid IS nice, but for the way I use the phone I think the Eris will be fine.

Thanks for all the help and information it did help when I went back to look at it tonight.

I should add.. I don't notice too much lag with the phone, but again, being my first Smart phone ( and first Android phone maybe that is why)

I'm sure it's too late now, but easy way to not have to pay the restocking fee is to switch to your old phone for 3 days. I had the Tour and the TouchPro2 never paid a restocking fee for either phone. Got 100% of my money back.

Well I was not too worried about the $35, but honestly the Eris works well for me and even after checking out the Droid, I decided to stick with what i have
