Root Switching recoveries?

I'm currently on TWRP, and want to switch to a recovery that'll actually let me flash a kernel (gives me an assert error, I'm guessing that devs assume that I'm going to be able to use another recovery). How do I switch to 4EXT? I've heard an awful lot about this recovery, not quite sure how it works though...

*EDIT*

I probably should've been a bit clearer, I am S-OFF, which is why this is so odd. Trying to flash JMZ's kernel on stock gives me a WiFi error when I boot into it. Help?

As far as I know it runs a separate script after flashing the rom
something similar to flashing a kernel manually via boot.img

I'm currently on TWRP2.2 and being s-on is what held it back from being able to flash kernels. But after I got the wiretrick down -after way too many tries for any sane person- roms with costume kernels worked just fine.

Are you s-on HTC unlocked?

If so its not the recovery that's the problem. Its HTC not letting you write to the boot partition. You're going to have to fastboot flash kernels

S-OFF. Which is what makes it so odd... I have the JuopunutBear 1.58 (or 1.5787 or something like that) HBOOT. Keep getting Status 7 errors and assert failed errors every time I try and flash JMZ's kernel.

nah, 4ext has an option for smart flashing boot.img while s-on. as for installing it, you can search for it and manually install it the same way you installed twrp originally (via your pc). otherwise, i just bought the app on the market for like 3-4 bucks and itll install from that. the app has some other nice features anyways, and for such a good recovery i dont mind sending a few dollars the devs way.

I was in the same boat. I had TWRP2 and wanted to try Mobster's ROM. I just bought and installed 4EXT and it updated my recovery and installed Mobsters ROM with the custom kernel.

I later reflashed Harmonia using 4EXT.

Some day I would like to try CM10, but have not done so yet.

While 4EXT flashes kernels properly the majority of times if you check these forums you will find numerous posts about people who have run into bootloops doing it. While it's a clever hack that works most times you should make sure that you have a boot.img and the tools to push it handy. Having s-off is a much simpler and safer solution imho.
