Root Switching to MT

Hi. First time poster here. I've finally decided to replace my Samsung Intercept with a Motorola Triumph. I have just a few questions regarding setting up everything for flashing a new rom.

1. If I activate my phone on the stock rom, will it still function normally when I flash a new rom?
2. Are there any other important things I should do other than activating my phone before immediately installing CWM and a rom?
3. Is rooting required before installing CWM and a rom?

This will be the first time I've installed a rom. I apologize if any of my questions were answered previously in another thread. Thanks! I'm excited to get my MT next week!

you haven't bought it yet have you? If so, forget the ROMs, Triumph all together and get the Exhibit II 4G instead. Signal quality for Sprint is so awful (at least in my area) before you even think about spending money, check VM's coverage map and ensure that it's not spotty all around town. In my area, it's so bad that I can walk down the street and get a call dropped and then walk down the other way and get a perfect signal.

I love the phone, it looks elegant, it runs pretty fast (I used a 600mhz iPod Touch before this) nice camera, screen size, but none of that matters more than the 3g working properly and after having it these past 2 days, I understand that now.

I have purchased the phone. The Exhibit II 4G looks like a great phone, but I'm not really willing to dish out more money for a higher data cap.

My third question was related to the first thread you linked.
"NOTE 2: You do not have to root your phone to do this, unless you really feel like doing so. The custom ROMs come with root access. Rooting beforehand is not necessary, but it does not hurt a thing either."
I wasn't sure if it would be preferable to root beforehand or not, as my question was more opinion-oriented. Thanks!

?? More money for a higher data cap? For one thing, their data actually works. Second, you pay 5 bucks LESS for unlimited data however you do get 200 less minutes. I'm sure you can setup Sipdroid+GV or nettalk to compensate. The phone itself is cheaper than the MT for 189.00 vs the 220 that I paid for the MT.

Where do you live that the quality is so awful? There's very few places here where I don't have much of a signal, then again, Vegas is a pretty major city lol

I'm grandfathered on the $25/mo plan, which is enough for me. I have no need for unlimited. The ~$30 difference between the prices of the phones seems like a small difference to pay.
