A little help please ..:confused:
My desire is rooted and using apps2SD+ . I bought a larger SD card for it.
I backed everything up, and transferred all to my PC (including hidden files)
I partitioned the card, and moved everything onto it, using a card reader. When I put it back in the phone, it gets stuck in a bootloop. Without the card in, it loads the sense interface.
Problem is, without a card, I don't have a keyboard, so I can't log into the market, to replace a few of my apps. I asked my son to have a look at it, and he managed to wipe the card!
I want to install a Redux or muiu rom, so I guess this is a good time to do it.
If I factory reset, then install, do they come with a keyboard? even a basic one, as I use Slidit usually.
The backup is still on my PC, can I put that onto a new rom.

I believe the process is a little bit more complicated when using a2sd+ basically you need to take a nandroid backup with the old card,then restore it using the new card.

you have already partioned the new card and backed up the old sd card so you should be good to go.
 
Thanks for that. When I try to restore it starts, then I get:

That's where it hangs.
I was wondering if it's because the old card had a ext2 partition, and we did the new one with ext3. Does that make a difference?
 
Shouldn't be but could be.

My guess is the partition is not correctly created. I recommend checking with gparted. You did create it with gparted yes?
 
We didn't originally use gparted, but have since wiped the card and re-partitioned using it. We reloaded the backup files from the PC onto the card. We flashed the Redux 1.2 rom, and that loaded okay without restoring my backup. I then tried restoring, and although it goes through the process, it now gets stuck on the android loading screen again.
Even if I can't use the backup, as long as I can get the phone and card playing nicely together then I'll be happy with that.
 
The thing with Redux is that it's a2sd script is designed to boot without a partition. Best bet is to wipe and boot again. Download quick system info from the market, restore a few apps and use Quick System info to determine if ext space goes down. Note the "a2sd storage" before and after the install / restore of apps.
 
I now have Redux running with the SD card installed, but I'm getting a low space warning, and I can't download anything without uninstalling things, so something isn't right somewhere.
System Info says:

SD card storage: 13.85gb. Free 7.25gb
A2SD storage: Total 0.96gb. Free 775mb
Internal Storage: 148mb. Free 9.45mb
System Storage: Total 250mb. Free 165mb

have you flashed the zip for redux to move the dalvik? (its a separate download from the redux site)
 
Okay .. We didn't have the add on, so downloaded it to PC and transferred as a zip to the SD card (root) It doesn't show up on the card. Is that because it is an unsigned Zip?
 
Should still see it. You're looking at it via recovery, yes? How did you transfer it? Try putting it in a folder.
 
We managed to install it using Rom Manager (I know, tut tut")

Then I had A2SD storage 0.96gb .. Free 710mb

I installed a game, now I have Internal storage 92.08mb and the a2sd storage hasn't changed, which suggests to me it has installed itself on the fat 32 partition, which is fine, but shouldn't the remaining bit have gone to the a2sd partition, or will that only happen once the internal memory is full?

It either does for all or doesn't. We can see its being used. You could boot recovery, wipe, flash dalvik add on and start installing apps. See if that's any better
 
Thanks .. I'll have to give it another go. Should the card be partioned? as an earlier post said not, but on the Redux site, it said yes. It is partitioned at the moment.
 
If you want more space by letting the scripts move the apps to the partition, you will need the partition in place. It is not necessary to have a partition with redux but that has obvious drawbacks.
 
Just a thought - the first SD card was goldcarded as part of the rooting process, but this one is standard aside from the partitioning. Would that make a difference? Oh, and is it worth sticking with ext3 for the performance / space benefits, or would it be easier to go back to ext2 to make it more compatible with the backup from the old card?
 
goldcard makes no difference. Infact if you partitioned it after making it a gold card, its no longer a gold card (may want to look into remaking that). EXT3 should be fine,
 
We tried starting everything again (twice) but still couldn't get it to use the ext partition. Meanwhile, I had a few doubts about the Redux rom anyway, so we did another reset and put on the CyanogenMod 7 with a Dark Tremor script. at the moment, that seems to be working fine, so I'll try it for a couple of weeks before thinking of another move.
