Swype and swiftkey x

Sydney99

Android Expert
used to be a big fan of swype. not sure if there's been updates recently with updated firmware, but have found it quite innacurate and a bit of a pain in the bum to use. i find it keeps loosing track of my finger and breaking words into 2:mad:

anyone else found this??

shame cause i think the swyping your finger thing was otherwise fab

have therefore been trying swiftkey, and although it hasnt got the cool swypey thing, it's really really quick and corrects bad typing really accurately. think my typing has actually speeded up through this.

anyone else like swiftkey??

Hey Sydney99 Try TouchPal

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.cootek.smartinputv5&feature=search_result

It blows Swype n Swift Key away by far

I hated swyping until I got TouchPal

I tried touchpal about a month back but I didnt like it.
I didnt like the fact that you couldn't access numbers from the front keys (eg. in swype you can long press "R" to get a "1") and you had to press a key to get the numbers up. I found this irritating swapping between screens all the time.

Or have they changed the layout now?

And the installation was a bit worrying, as the GS2 reported (and rightly so) that this app could records your keystrokes and log passwords etc). Not that I'm saying touchpal does this of course, but it does make you think wot could be done with an app such as this

All "smart" keyboards do this if you think about it - that's how their custom dictionaries work, by recording keystrokes and storing the resulting words. Provided you don't confirm a password as a word they're safe enough.

You can and could always longpress keys to get numbers

Didn't have that on the version I tried rich.
I might give it another try but I've no real gripes with swype to be honest.
I need convincing! :D

its way better and faster than swype and the word prediction is far superior

Ok I've just installed it again and using it right now.
Your right word prediction does seem slicker than swype, but like before I do not get any number symbols on the front keyboard what so ever. Can't see an option for them to go on the front keyboard. I don't want to be flipping between screens all the time just to put in numbers

just hold your finger on the top row Q is 1 etc trust me m8 it will pop up your doing it wrong :p:D

ah right.
why do none of the shift key symbols get shown the keyboard itself then? Seems a bit ridiculous to me. Especially as i've just tested the other keys and for example, long pressing "S" gets "\". How the hell are you supposed to remember where all those symbols are? :(

I only get shift symbols on the bottom row

maybe its not perfect but its damn good you will get used too it if i can you most deff can lol:p

i just dont understand why they only show shift symbols on the bottom row. There is a setting in the options for "alternative symbols" but this just shows these bottom row symbols.
its strange, as when the app is run for the first time it goes through a quick tutorial, and that keyboard shows all the shift symbols on all rows.

no shifft key on every row and hawker this may help you

Q: Why I can only see last row with alternative symbols?
A: Because the slide-down gesture on top two rows is conflicted with Curve. Disabling Curve will show alternative symbols on the top two rows.

I cant try it myself just now as uploading csi at the mo

That gets them back Rich. Nice one, but Curve is touchpal's version of Swype, so swyping is disabled.
Its a shame. I cant see why they cant show the symbols.
Think I will stick to swype for the time being....
