Swype avail for Eris

My version (8mb) now tells me it has expired and that I need to upgrade.

So, I just uninstalled it and went with the lite version.
All happy again!:)

where do i get the lite version?

i had the bata saved on my computer, uninstalled, and re-installed it and still get the message telling me to update.

I HATE THE REGULAR KEYBOARD NOW.

Yeah, my lite version is still going strong ... but if the pattern holds true it probably only has a few days left to live. :(

I know I have no idea WTF is the matter with this dev, put it in the market already people will pay for this thing!!! its a great key board.

I went APE **** when i learned mine was expired. Just put on the lite version. I wish I could email this dev and lite a fire under em. to start making money.

Great idea, but quit dragging your feet already and put it in the market! Hell I'll even pay pal you if this is going to stay third party ya know.

It was posted on page 8 of this thread.
Swype-Lite.1.16.12.5228.219.apk

This is, and will be for a long time, the most relevant version of Swype.

Even if Swype updates with newer features and better UI, this Swype will probably remain the gold standard.

Because of the optimized .png's, stripped out language files, and great functionality/stability, it's hard to imagine Swype could improve.

If the features and functionality improve, the speed probably WON'T.

So for daily use, good speed, and as full functionality as someone needs (I've converted 7 people to Swype Lite, who use it every single day, including myself), this version is the best.

Even when you can buy it, the .png's won't be optimized for your 528mhz Eris to handle, and the footprint will be a LOT bigger than 1-2MB.

I'm sticking with Swype Lite. I still send it to people.

they are probably not releasing it in the market cause (i heard) they want to partner with maufacturers to have swype an OEM type KB available for xyz phone out of the box.
this would be a far more lucrative approach to selling their app, i dont blame them.

Nice, the lite version still works. Awesome to play with. hit that link, save it to your phone, install it. Then on 2.1 go to settings > languages > enable swype.

And when you are going to text or e-mail hold down the chat area (without keyboard) until it says "input method" and then select swype.

How do I install it once it's on my phone?

Sorry but I am going to treat this like I do my idiot users at work. Read the first post. :D

Damn Swype for closing the beta. Here is a link for the lite version that still works.

1. Transfer to your Eris via USB
2. Settings -> Application settings -> Check Unknown sources
3. Use a file manager program such as Astro File Manager and go to the location you stored the .apk
4. Install
5. After install go to Settings -> Locale & Text -> Check Swype
6. Open any email/text client and hold down the text box and you will get a popup asking what you want for input. Select Swype. You only have to do this once and it will do it for all your programs.

Yeah, I saw that...but do I need a file manager on my phone...I don't have one downloaded as of now. Is there a way around that?

What other benefits are there to having the manager...

just download "astro" file manager. or some type of file manager. it will be able to open the file that's on your SD card. then you open it up and install it that way. if you dont' want the file manager on your phone delete it afterwards. it's helpful and useful to have a file manager on the phone though.

I believe you and I'm installing it, I'll keep it on the phone, but out of curiosity, what else is it useful for?

Now I'm going to sound like an idiot, but here's what I did:

Downloaded it, placed it onto my SD card through my computer (put the file in the general removable disk folder). Checked unknown sources, went to Astro, and can't find it anywhere.

Any advice?

1. Do a google search for "Swype HVGA.apk"(File size for new one is about 7MB. Old one was 2MB. Hope this helps in your searches)
2. Transfer to your Eris via USB
3. Settings -> Application settings -> Check Unknown sources (You all prob have done this before but my n00b friends had not so I thought I would mention it anyways)

8. Disable Audio Warnings as it seems to give errors as well located at Phone settings -> Locale & text -> Swype
9.Reboot your phone. This seems to help in not having any FC's

I recommend reading the tutorial. Helped me. This is very sick. I now love one handed emailing and texting as its so simple.

here is the correct version the link below....

ENJOY!:)

lemme know if that works for you. if it doesn't then i'll un-download mine and re-follow all the steps just to make sure.

Thanks, but like I said, I did download it already and put the file in my Eris folder (the one that pops up when you plug it in and has the DCIM folder, bookmarks folder, etc.)

It's in that general Removeable disk folder, and when I open astro, I search for it and can't find it, and can't find it anywhere...I'm also new to astro, so if I'm missing anything, let me know. But I'm on step 4 and can't locate my file...

The 'Lite' version actually has the .png's optimized, and they are about half the size. So virtually all of the graphics show up, load, and disappear faster than they do with the normal 1.16 ones. Just look for one that says Swype Lite. It's faster. has full graphics and tutorial. Just english. Perfect.

This is the version I have installed, after trying 5 different ones (5.3mb, .98mb, 1.8mb, a 2mb, and now this Lite one), and the Lite one is seriously significantly faster than the others at popping up, loading the other keyboard (when you hit the numbers instead of letters, for example), and is just as small and useful as the other 1mb ones (1.9mb-ish) until you build your dictionary.

I'd use it. This one is my final answer. Download Barcode Scanner, if you haven't, and load this up.

Click the link from the post, download it right to your phone. It's mediafire, not rapidshare.

It's the lite version. 1.16. English. All graphics and tutorial intact. Fastest version out there.

if you have a "barcode" scanner application just scan that bitch and then when it opens up the file or site download it. then once u start downloading it then once it's finished just click it and open then install. like if you do it on your actual phone then you will not need a file manager to located it. once it's finished it will be in your recently downloaded or at the top and just click on it then download. lemme know if that works for you.

Got it to work, thanks.

It warned me when I enabled it that it could collect everything we type...should that concern me? Are they going to collect all the information I text?
