hi, i was lead to belive that swype came as standard on the XE, is this correct, if so how do i activate it, i cant seem to find any keyboard sub menus etc....
I can see 'Trace' keyboard in the Language and Keyboard settings, no mention of Swype in particular. Trace is HTC's software which is similar to Swype.
Yeh there is a version of swype, as above says called trace. Works well for me however it isn't active in all apps eg eBay amongst others. Is there a way to enable it all the time whenever a keyboard is required?
Also to get a number you have to hold the key down, I prefer to flick off the key its faster.
I got my XE on Friday last week and it didn't have Trace or Swype built in out-the-box.
You can however enroll for Swype at Swype | Type Fast, Swype Faster which is what I did and I've got it running fine.
A nice touch with the keyboard is that, whilst it isn't on the Android Market (as it's in beta) it still checks for updates directly through the application so you don't need to keep checking.
There are a couple of bits that niggle me (I used to use Shapewriter on my last phone) but it's still pretty good and I'm sure once I've got to grips with all of the gestures it'll be second nature.
Do as SiO2y says and visit swypes homepage and sign up up for the beta version. I love it and use it all the time. Its compact, accurate, quick and just great.
The trace function for the HTC standard keyboard never worked half the time. I'd select trace and then use it, the next time I'd use the keyboard I'd have to go back into the settings and activate the swipe feature again!
No other swipe based keyboard is as good as swype....I think anyhow D
