Swype: hide keyboard

I only had to reboot it the once, works fine now. Just to clarify I'm talking about shape writer, not sure if you were talking about swype or shape writer when you said about rebooting every time. Give it a whirl, if it's not for you then bin it. I'm starting to like it, although there are times when I'd rather a standard keypad. Can't work out how to write in capitals at the moment, for when I want to emphasise a particular word, not because I like to SHOUT!
 
i'm just downloading shapewriter now, so i can't speak for it, but on swype, to use capitals, you start on the first letter of the word, swipe up above the keyboard, do a little loop/squiggle, then continue writing the rest of the letters. when you finish, it's ALL CAPS.
 
cant get swipe to work on my desire, i do the tutorial, but it never comes up in actual apps, I have it ticked to on... but still dont work, will try shapewriter

Thanks that worked, I have both the keyboards, and swype is a lot better and easier to use than the other one. also you can actually see the symbols on the swype keys, I could not figure out how to do "don't" on the shapewriter one.

Swype it is for me!

carperkm.... right. didn't realise you meant that ONE power cycle would fix it PERMANENTLY. i'll give that a go.

That's easy. I'm one for proper grammar and punctuation and I always just press on your's after I've spelt out yours, or don't after spelling out dont. They are always there as an option.

In response to above, I can understand why you were confused, what with swype, shape writer, rebooting phones, uninstalling... Glad you got there in the end.
 
How can I activate Swype to replace standard qwerty keyboard ? I enterd Settings - Language And keynoard -Text Settings - Swype but when I want to write a message still old qwerty kb appears.

paulgsm, when you're ready to start typing a text message, long hold the text field.
you'll see a box pop up that says "input method". just select 'swype' and off ya go!

:D i am i guess..am dubious about downloads/apps thats might bugger my phone up but really glad swype going ok as its a great tool and showing it to people who've not seen or heard of it is fun! just love this phone:)

'tis strange, :( i'm no expert but which version are you using? (presuming if you tried shapewriter you've re-installed swype) i don't know if it makes any difference but i put the version i'm using in another swype thread this week..
 
yeah, i'm fairly certain the version of swype i'm using is the one you linked to.... v1.25.16.56.

How do you actually install the app onto your phone once downloaded from RS? Someone mentioned a tutorial.

*Download Astro File Manager from the Market.

*Download the Swype App and then transfer it to a folder on your SD Card (I put all mine in a folder called Apps)

*Then using Astro, browse to that folder and select the Swype app. In the pop-up menu choose the Package Installer.

*To enable it Go to Menu > Settings > Language & Text and then tick the box next to Swype.

*Then once in a text input box (such as sending an email) hold down inside the text box and choose 'Input Method' then choose Swype.
If you find you can no longer use the Pinch/Zoom function of the phone try restarting the phone.

hi Bruce, one of the others guys put that link in as my version is: 1.16.12.5230.t
not sure if it will make any difference and i used astro to manage it..hope you get it sorted:(
 
Would some of you Swype folks do me (and possibly yourselves) a favour? I just want to confirm something.

When you next go to recharge your phone, go to Settings -> About Phone -> Battery -> Battery use and note down the percentage beside Android.

Then try disabling Swype for a day and do the same process. Tell me if the results are any different.


I'm seeing a pretty big jump in the amount of battery Android uses when I have swype installed... in the area of 10-20%. And my battery lasts about five hours less.
 
It must be just me but with SlideIT I get about a 95% correct word prediction rate but with swipe I get allot less right.
So much so I've given up on it and keeping SlideIT for good, and will be buying it soon.
 
haven't seen or checked slideIt hot fuzz but thats good %..sometimes get a few words wrong, do you prefer slide layout etc or i'm guessing they are similar?
