Swype is BACK!!!

I just downloaded Swype because I've heard so much about it. It looked dumb so I never bothered. I saw this topic and figured what the hell? Now I can't stop typing stuff. I am totally addicted! This is one of the best and most useful tools I've found for android yet. I recommend everyone give it a shot. Even if you don't like it, at least you can say you tried it and didn't like it, unlike me who hated it without giving it a fair chance... And now I'm hooked!

registered, downloaded and installed in about 50 seconds. pretty clean process. App woks great, but I am not that fast yet. I still regular type about twice as fast. Will keep practicing to get my speed up and see if it is worth all the hype.

I've just registered and had the email arrive in my inbox with the minute. The install was smooth...and I'm really liking it.

Given its my first time trying it, I'm very amateur at, but I can see how it will improve my WPM as I get used to it. Thankfully, I can also type the regular way, if necessary (though I'll have to break out of that habit...damn muscle memory).

Good stuff.
 
Got my email 5 minutes after registering. Downloaded fine. Dont know if I like it though.. Maybe its just getting used to.

I wasn't sure at first, either. After I stuck it out for a little while, I was sold. I can't use anything else now!

just tried shapewriter out..it's actually quite good! wonder why i didn't use this sooner! can't use swype currently because of the rom i'm using already had it built with an older version that is now expired so yea the codes and all that won't let it work..but shapewriter is gr8! highly recommend!
 
Is there a way to import your user dictionary from the standard messaging dictionary into swype? It seems annoying to have to reprogram all those words again.
 
Can you hide the keyboard like you can with the stock Android keyboard? I haven't figured out how to do that. Sometimes I hide the keyboard to see the full page, get to a new field, etc.
 
As I've just found out, when you've downloaded and installed Swype reboot your phone or your multitouch doesn't work.
 
When I double tap on words the prediction box never comes up anymore unless I'm landscape mode. I HAVE to hit the Swype key before it'll come up in portrait mode. Is anyone else having this problem?

Yes, everyone is.

I have to put your cursor inside the word and then hit the swype key.
 
Just wanted to chime in here and say I completely thought this was a gimmicky thing. But then again, I thought the kickstand on my Evo was a gimmick as well. I was wrong about both.

Swype is an awesome keyboard and after playing with it for just a few minutes you can "type" soooo much faster than other keyboards. If you keep wondering what the big deal is and why this thread keeps showing up on the front page, TRY IT OUT. I'm blown away by just how fast I can compose a lengthy e-mail now.
 
Hm, I wonder why that is though. The Swype that came preinstalled on my phone did it just fine.
