swype, just try it

I did, but I went back to the regular on-screen QWERTY. As one who took Typing in High School on REAL Electric Typewriters (I graduated in 1990), I am old school I guess, I tried to like Swype, I really did, it just isn't "my bag baby" :D I wonder too if it will make already sloppy spelling, grammar and texting even worse. Kids today need MORE structure on that stuff, not less ;)

for those having swype learn certain words. there is a program that helps it learn called "sms to swype". it takes words that you type when not using swype into the swype dictionary. so when you cant get swype to learn a word switch keyboards, type your word, and send the text. when you get done run the "sms to swype" and it will save it and next time you can use swype to do it. i have done that a few times but i rarely ever have to use it. most of the time i only use it when im trying to get it to learn an abbreviated word it dont understand.

I doubt that will change anything, most of the words it has trouble with are words that are already in Swype, it just is not properly predicting them.

Enabled swype on Day 2 of ownership back in August and I love it and I will never go back to pecking. You do have to have that QWERTY memorized tho or else you run into the need for transparent fingers like someone else said.

I am not particularly fast or anything but it's word completion is right on for me, and it learns so you aren't forced to peck out odd words that you use often. Glad it came with the X and didn't have to get an app, I heard the app is kinda bo bo...

Pretty sure the Swype that came with the X is the exact same thing as the one you would get via the market or whatever, its just pre-installed instead of installing after you get the phone.

As for memorizing the keyboard, its not difficult if you are any good at typing on a normal keyboard. Every now and then my brain goes blank and I stop in the middle of a word to look for the next letter, but as long as you do not lift up your finger, you can continue to the next letter after a pause and it will still count along with the word you were working on. I have gotten halfway through a word, stopped for 2-3 seconds, then continued without lifting my finger and it still got it right. Its really not bad at all, if you don't fully memorize the location of letters just pause when you need to and find them and it still works fine.

my problem with swype especially for texting is when you abbreviate or you are using a word that isn't common. Then it guesses wrong and you waste a lot of time. For typing out long messages though I definitely see the merit.

If you can't spell, SWYPE won't be too useful. It actually works as a sort of spell check. If it doesn't identify the word you are spelling, maybe you should consider the possibility that YOU are the problem. I've been internally embarrassed more than once for getting mad at SWYPE for not recognizing a non-word.

Just started using Swype and I love it!

I also have a nice lanyard for my X. Very nice, secure.. I dropped my X, but the lanyard saved it!
