Help Swype Not Auto-Spacing / No Update

AlwaysAngry

Well-Known Member
swype isn't auto-spacing in the browser (works fine in texts and other apps). i googled the (common) problem but there was no solution out there.

also, in settings, i can see that i have swype version 1.2.3.8848, and on swype's website it states that the newest version is 1.4. now, when i click "updates" on the phone, it tells me to "Please check back again for available updates".

so what i'm asking is:

1) why can't / how can i update swype to 1.4?

2) has anyone figured out a solution to the auto-spacing problem?

(please don't recommend a swype alternative. i'm only interested in fixing/updating swype, thank you for your understanding.)

I'm not sure it's meant to auto space in the browser.

I had this "problem" with my old phone when I was using SlideIt and sent them an email.

They explained that browser input is usually continuous for web addresses etc.

I appreciate that the browser box is increasing used for searches etc, and it does catch me out sometimes, so for me I just hit the space bar (when I remember!)

I'm on 4.1.1 so using the "continuous input" method, which I believe is Swype in all but name.

^ sorry, i didn't mean the browser bar; i meant any text field on any website in the browser. such as this very box here that i'm typing in now.

Ah I see.

Well it seems to be ok here.

Thought I'd crank open chrome in my Note 2 and reply using that.

Apart from one typo all seems well including the auto spacing.

Strange that it doesn't happen for you.

You probably have tried, but there is a reset option in the settings.

are you using the actual "swype" keyboard?

and if so, what version swype?

also, if it's not too much trouble, what version of android?

carrier?

rooted?

sorry about the 20 questions, i'm desperately trying to pinpoint the problem. :o

No worries.

International SIM free.
4.1.1
Using "Continuous Input" (no Swype listed but I'm sure it's a vanilla version of Swype)
No root

I'm on Swype Ver 1.2.4.9365 and I have the same 'issue' in Dolphin browser. I try to swype within the Google search window (one beneath GOOGLE) and it doesn't auto space.

That is NOT a place where you would expect a single string entry.

oh i see, you're not using swype. you're using the samsung keyboard that works like swype but it's not the same thing. i don't have any auto-spacing issues with that keyboard either (which is why i'm using it now), i just prefer swype... when it's working. i appreciate you taking the time to help!

OK. Sorry I couldn't have been of help.

Just out of interest, did your phone come pre-installed with Swype or did you download it?

And what are the obvious differences between the Samsung continuous input and Swype?

it was pre-installed. it's more accurate, has better suggestions and i feel like it's got a more convenient layout for special characters (!@#$%^&) except for the asterisk* which is in a sub-menu. oh, and it doesn't auto-space after periods (although there is a shortcut for it: drag the period to the space-bar [lots of cool shortcuts]), makes it convenient when you type things like ".com" or "..."

in my experience, most people that try it prefer it over the others but it'll take a couple of days to get familiar with it. once you learn it, it's hard to let go!

Thanks for the info.
Assume it's a carrier thing with Swype being preinstalled.

I have to say that I enjoy using the Sammy version - it's almost got to the stage where it can predict entire sentences! Well almost.

Hope someone else chips in with the details you need.

Swype wasn't auto spacing for me when i was using dolphin browser, but since I've switched to opera it's been fine. I'm guessing it was just the version of Swype that came pre installed not playing nice with dolphin because i don't remember having the same problem on my gs3.

I have Dolphin on my D2G and Swype is fine. Have you gone into Settings>Language and KeyBoard>Swype settings>put check in auto-space block ........ GL

Yea that's not the problem. i guess i should specify that the auto spacing wasn't working in the normal dolphin browser, but it does work in the dolphin beta and opera browsers. I'm using the version of Swype that came pre-installed on the n2 and not the beta.

A while back it had the same problem with sharing Facebook content. But was rectified soon enough. I'm not sure if this is with Swype or app specific.

I have the same issue with the google search bar in dolphin, it doesn't auto space, there are a few other applications that give me the same issue, when I had the Razr Maxx I never had any sort of issue like this.

I ran into the same issues with the Swype Beta on my "old" Galaxy Nexus. When I researched it, the only solutions were to move to an alternate browser (Firefox or Chrome) as the default wouldn't allow it to work.

HTH

I just got the 4.1.2 android update last night, and with it, the Swype update too. All seems to be working fine... backspace seems to be a little too fast though.

Got my note 2 a couple of weeks ago......my work ipad is gathering dust in the corner. I was charging the note 2 so was forced to use the fruit based product and had forgotten how to type on it, the swype (samsung version) is amazing!

Read lots of threads on here, wanted to post my own to say thank you for all the advice (spent a weekend reading on here while I waited for the phone to be delivered). Hated the iphone for the past 4 years, used to have the old O2 XDA's and loved them as I could set them up the way I wanted......now can do that again :-D
