Hey gang - I received the 2.2.2 update last night and loaded it (Stock D1). Swype no longer works. Any suggestions?

Although I am not installing this OTA update since I am rooted, I had this same problem with previous updates. I found the best thing to do was to uninstall Swype and the Swype installer. Then, I went to the Swype webpage, logged in with my email registered for the beta program, downloaded the installer, then installed Swype. Last step was to go into the keyboard settings to set Swype as my default keyboard.

This process worked for me with the past two updates.

Good Luck.

A lot easier is this fix, and in particular if you try to swype and all it does is show a quick blue border highlight when trying to swype:

  1. Long press the text entry box
  2. Select Input method
  3. Change the setting from Swype to Android keyboard
  4. Type some random text (a single character is usually sufficient)
  5. Long press the text entry box
  6. Select Input method
  7. Change setting from Android keyboard to Swype

That should get it working.

NOTE: If you try to use a backup and restore app like Titanium Backup then you will have issues as Swype needs tobe registered properly in order to work. In this case, an uninstall and reinstall will be required.

Thanks for the workaround. I had the same problem. After receiving an update from Motorola/Verizon, my Swype stopped working.

I had to uninstall and re-install Swype for it to work.

Thanks.
