Just got a Wildfire and am still learning! Is it possible to download Swype to my PC and then transfer across to the phone?

Hello, and welcome to the forums, David.
First, be sure to have the HTC Wildfire drivers installed on your PC.
Just move the Swype apk to your SD card via your USB cable (with the "USB debugging" activated in menu > settings > applications > development). Don't put that file in a sub-folder; just let it live right on the "/" (root) folder.
Once the apk file is on your SD card, disconnect the USB cable, then navigate to the SD card "/" (root) folder where the apk file is and just click it. A prompt to install will appear, click "install."
