Swype?

skep

I tried to download swype from their website and they show on their homepage that they support the new galaxy tab 2, but it will not install. It says not compatible with this screen size. But when you go to the faqs, that issue is listed and there is a resolution that says you have an old version of swype and just install the newest version... well i just downloaded the newest and guess what? It didnt work! I dont like the stock keyboard because it doesnt fix any of your errors or typos and i seem to have a lot on this stock keyboard.

Has anyone successfully installed swype on the galaxy tab 2 7.0??
Thanks in advance

I hesitate to try it because from all appearances, the Swype keyboard stretches across the entire screen.

One of the reasons Swype works so well on the GS2 (and other phones) is because the "keys" are very close together. Stretching out the keyboard on the 10.1 screen, especially in landscape orientation, seems to defeat the purpose, actually. I'm not particularly lazy (no, really!) I just like efficiency.

Swype would do well to make the keyboard sit in a corner of the screen rather than fill the screen. Better yet, make it scalable.

Well i have the 7 inch galaxy. And my main complaint is that the stock keyboard has no dictionary or auto correct at all. Im constantly fixing typos

I just downloaded it and it's working beautifully.

They have done this, too and it's working VERY nicely. I can be happy again! My life is complete!

I just tried too. Received same screen size error. LouWags, how did you get it to install? How do you "sideload?"

Samsung needs to send them a tablet so they can start working on it :(

Swype Beta Installation failed/"Error: This screen size is not supported."

Greetings!

It's come to our attention that a handful of owners on certain devices are running into some issues with the Swype Beta. Although a minority of users have reported this, it seems that there could be an issue with screen resolution detection and/or keyboard rendering on the following devices at this point in time:

- HTC One S

- HTC One X
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7-inch model)

UPDATE

We've addressed the issue with screen size detection within the Installer on the
HTC One S. If you are an HTC One S user, please try again with the Beta Installer as usual: log in with your username and password, and you should no longer see that pesky "Error: This screen size is not supported." message.

Sideloading means you copy or download the .apk file to your sdcard and launch that file using one of the many file explorer programs (I think My Files comes with the Tab 2).

You should be able to find the Swype.apk file on the internet if you don't already have it. Don't use the installer; just the Swype.apk directly.

That's the right answer, Azlan. The instructions are on the Sype website. Once you click to download the file, it give detailed instructions. Doesn't need to be that complicated, but that's the way they did it.

I like most Tab 2 owner have been looking for a way to get swype to work instead of dealing with the screen size issue.
Swype has said that the fix will be in the new beta, but that doesn't help now!

3.26.92.39062 apk works flawlessly. Swype has asked sites not to allow people to post links because of the many "altered" apks, so I won't do that. But you have Google to find it for yourselves. Don't use the beta installer, uninstall it and anything Swype related then just download the file # above, restart, press the keyboard icon in lower right tab bar and select swype and your done. It works. The keyboard does cover a good bit of your screen, but that means the buttons are all easy to reach and no typing issues. The voice recognition is much improved.
Life is good with Swype again:)

Note my comment earlier in the thread. You can now shrink the keyboard so that it's much easier to use. You can also drag it around the screen and put it where you want, out of the way of what you're typing.

It works like it should now!

I think I got the right version installed (DarkSwype-v6b-Beta-326-Tablet.apk) on my samsung tab 2 7.0, but a small part of the keyboard doesn't fit on the screen. I couldn't find any setting choices to shrink the keyboard as suggested in a prior post. Can anyone explain how to adjust the size of the keyboard? Do I have the wrong version? Thanks in advance.

The latest version of Swype now works on my Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. You may need to install the latest Swype Installer first and then proceed as usual.

There's a button on the lower right corner of the keyboard image which looks like a little keyboard icon with two arrows pointing toward each side. Tap that button. It should shrink for you.

If that's the part of the keyboard you can't see, I don't know what to tell you. There are some discussion forums on the Swype web site which appear to be very helpful.

Yeah finally working now. Feels a little weird with using it on a bigger screen than with a smart phone.but better than the Samsung keyboard.

finally got swype working on the tablet! so much better. i hate that they can access what you type tho, so not cool

You dont need to download swype. In settings under the samsung keyboard tab click predictive text (it has to be turned on) then check the box next to "continuous input." Your good to go.

Which Tab version is this for? I'm using Tab 2 7.0 and can't see an option for 'continuous input', just Voice input, Auto caps, Auto-punctuate and Key-tap sound (predictive text is on)

Can Swype-techies really access what you type? That's a massive invasion of privacy....I'm using the Swype Beta and love it, but don't like the sound of this!

i managed to get the tip above working. When you go into the samsung keyboard settings, tap on the line for predicitive text rather than just placing tick in the box on the line. This opens up a new menu screen with the various additional options available. Only had it running a short time but very like swype so happy chappy here.
