Swyper no swyping!

So is there a general consensus on swyping? I think it looks pretty cool and would love to try it out sooner or later..

However, all that glitters is not gold.. what do you guys think of it?

I've seen some reviews state they "prefer" tapping but, like the option.. and most people seem to appreciate that it is an option even if they don't really use it.. So what do you guys think?

Haha, the thread title made me laugh, a lot.

Anyways, I only like swype in portrait mode when I'm restricted to one hand. If I can use both hands, I'm faster than when swyping. I hate swype in landscape mode, I've been using it since February and just have never been able to tolerate it in landscape mode. It has to do with the Spacebar spacing.

I'm finding its pretty easy to get used to swype to get medium speed. Im certainly not as fast as I was with a full qwerty of physical buttons but in time we'll see. I will say its about 99% accurate and a pretty impressive system

it looks interesting.. I want to play with it x.x

*Edit*

Do downloaded versions work as well as versions that come built in? for instance if I got an atc aria and downloaded an app for swype would it work as good as another phone that came with it pre installed?

Swype made me regret bothering with a phone with a qwerty keyboard. I'd been so unhappy with the virtual keyboard on the Eris that I used for a couple of weeks that I insisted on a physical keyboard. My Slide came with Swype, and once I got used to it I haven't used the keyboard at all; it's just there adding weight and thickness to the phone... :p

I haven't used a phone that comes with swype but it seems to me like it works just as well. I have never had any problems with a downloaded version (original leaked ones or official beta.)

+1 for swype but as it was said only in portrait mode, not landscape. I have swype with a droid 2 metamorph theme over it and also the droid 2 multitouch keyboard on my droid and dont even bother with the physical keyboard anymore.

I only use Swype in portrait mode as well. Overall I think it's neat but not always efficient as sometimes I have to draw the absolute perfect path or else the wrong word is chosen. It's better than the stock Android keyboard though.

I'm happy with Swype after going into settings and changing the "Accuracy vs Speed" slider (almost) all the way to the Accurate side.

It does have a bit of a learning curve, though.

Oh mannnn! Swype is great, I'm using a DL'd version for my Hero, and am amazed at how accurate it is, try it if you have a chance.

I only use it in portrait mode as well. It felt a bit gimmicky at first but I gave it fare dues and after having used it for several weeks going back to using a standard virtual keyboard feels very slow now. I guess I just gradually got faster and faster over a few weeks to a point much quicker than I can do with a standard keyboard.

My wife (who also has a Hero) was standing next to me the other day when I was sending a message and she said 'what the hell is that!' I think she might give it a go seeing how quick it was, I never showed it to her before as she would have gone back to the standard keyboard after 2 times of getting frustrated by Swype.

i like the concept but its too humid where i live to use it. its great if im in a air conditioned building, but the second i step outside into heat and humidity, my finger just doesnt slide well at all. not sure if its me sweating, the screen sticking more, or a combo of both, but just doesnt work well in that situation

i prefer stock android keyboard only because i type in multiple languages and its kind of a bother to change the language settings all the time.

Swype, only portrait mode though. I am much faster with it. On landscape it just isn't comfortable with the size the the Droid X screen

I flip flop... I regularly visit a *certain site* where some people host videos and whatnot (full feature films, some before they hit theaters) and it's a flash site. Swype doesn't like working there for the chat section... so for that I just use my stock keyboard. Other than that, swype in portrait is the way for me on an Evo.

lol, after playing with it some.. I wish I had one badly.

Bad enough that I'd drop full price on the captivate lol. 5 minutes in it was still awkward.. but, it is hard to put down..

I don't believe anyone should text and drive for any reason..

With that said.. there are people who can talk on the phone while driving, and those who can't. There are people who can text, and those who can't...

With that said, I love fast cars and I love phones.. I don't think the two should ever mix.
