Swype's built in "disability"

Is there any way to deal with Swype's "tyre" when I meant "the"? I get that all the time... And no, I can't highlight it and tap the Swype key, that just brings up the "Instead of tyre, what other nonsense word did you mean" window.

I tried going a bit to the left and hitting the 'g' key...sort of t...g...h...e...and 'The' was the first word on the drop down, so it'll learn that trick (highlighted) and 'tyre' was number two, so I suspect it will work for you.

Ah, yes, thanks, that does work, but that means that for every word that this type of thing happens for, I have to remember a "trick" to work around Swype's assumption. I'm not a big fan of remembering tricks, I'm not a smart man, so in the long run that's not a good general solution. What I'm looking more for is a way to remove tyre from Swype's freaking dictionary. (I just looked up what the heck 'tyre' is, it's the old way to spell tire, still in use in non-North-American-English-speaking countries, so I'll never need it and want to say goodbye)
I mean, basically, Android is open-source, so why are there ANY words that are "built-in"? Would this make a good bug you think?

This is the reason I prefer SlideIt. Swype is good but to me it seams that SlideIt's word prediction is more accurate. I still switch back and forth between the 2, but overall I stick with SlideIt. Swype has a slightly better secondary key layout IMO.

Huh. Learn something new every day. Thanks for the tip-off. Before I install SlideIt, how would I go about switching which one I use?

Any keyboard you use will have to be "activated" (after installation) from your settings screen, which is accessible from your home page and pressing the menu button.

Ask and ye shall receive. Thanks fella's! I've still gotten 'tyre' once, but I'll continue test-driving the demo...

You know, I had Swype's accuracy vs. speed up to about 85% accuracy. I went 100% accuracy and it works fantastic. Thanks guys!

Do you know how to add a word to your dictionary? Well you can do the same with the words you don't want. For instance when I would try to swype 'was' it would always end up typing "W's" instead... so I long pressed on W's and some options popped up. I tapped on 'Add to Black List' and now it never comes up anymore when I try to swype 'was'.

I'm using 'Ultra Keyboard', but I'm assuming that this is the same way Swype works.

Oh yes, definitely-- it only lets you remove words that you've added, the built-in words you need a forklift to remove, and 'tyre' is built in. I'll also try your thingy...

Far from being, "the old way to spell tire", it is in fact the correct English way to spell tyre as opposed to the pidgin English version.

This is not to be confused with, "tire" which means, "to weary" or "fatigue".
:D
