Help Sync issue-computer doesnt see phone

the IT company at my work recently had to reformat my computer due to a virus. when I got it back, i installed the HTC sync for my droid and now it doesn't recognize my phone!

If I connect the phone as a disk drive, it sees the storage and i can access the files, but when i connect to sync, my computer never recognises there is a phone connected.

can someone help with this issue? i have the current version of sync, and it worked before, but not now. My IT guy even reinstalled the HTC sync himself and he cant get it to work.

Have you rebooted the phone?
My PC randomly lost the ability to see it, worked fine after a reboot.
