Help Sync only a specific Google contact group?

Newbie question probably, but is there a way to sync only one specific Google contact group rather than getting everyone that happens to have a phone number from the generic "All Contacts" section?

If I go into the standalone Contacts app the only contacts I see on the "Contacts: Google" list are the ones I want but when I go into the contacts in the phone app everyone and their grandparents are listed....

I just tried unlinking the contacts so i could kill them off the phone but leave them in google. Interesting thing is that on the link page i was able to choose where the contacts came from in a similar manner as to what the standalone contact app has. This makes me think the dialer app can do it but is hidden in a weird place.

Anyone have any better luck?
