How To Sync Outlook Contacts & Calendar to Google

Beware of MyPhoneExplorer. It only properly handles the following 16 contact fields from Outlook. If you have data in any of Outlook's other contact fields, it will get deleted from Outlook upon your second syncrhonization. If you only use the following 16 fields, MyPhoneExplorer works fine.
1) First name
2) Last name
3) Company name
4) Home phone
5) Mobile phone
6) Business phone
7) Fax
8) Other phone
9) Home address
10 Work address
11) Email1
12) Email2
13) Email3
14) Web page
15) Info/Notes
16) Birthday

Examples of fields that are not synchronized, include "Other address", Business2 phone, Home2 phone, Assistant's name, & Categories, but I guess there are more than 100 other Outlook fields that MyPhoneExplorer can't handle.

Also, MyPhoneExplorer moves the job-title from Outlook to the phone properly, but then when it moves the job-title back to Outlook, it places job-title into Outlook's "title field". (By "title field" I mean where Outlook stores things like Mr., Mrs., & Dr.)

I gave in and bought gSyncit this morning. I've only synced my calendar from Outlook to Google, and don't plan to do two way syncing, or sync contacts or anything else, since I have heard of possible probs with gSyncit. That said, it worked fine and my calendar shows up as hoped for on my droidx.

I tried to sync the calendar several times with Google's app and was never able to get it to work. It seemed like it was working, no errors reported, it just didn't move any data over to Google.

FWIW I've been using gSyncit since October 2010 and haven't had any serious problems with it.

I -did- recently lose some appointments (recurring ones easily recreated) but I also just migrated to a new desktop and moved from XP to Win 7 in the process...the timing makes it seem as though something I was doing with my computers may have caused the problem.

My Google Calendar and Motorola Droid phone syncs fine for events, etc. But when I input a birthday on my Google Contacts, it does not show up on my phone, only the first time I did it. When adding more, does not work. Can't figure out what I am doing wrong...

I have a good solution for contact syncs. What I do is this: I let my android sync contacts with gmail, I connected my gmail to soocial.com, an online address book solution (disclaimer: I work there, but this is really how I use it) Then I added more connections from Soocial to all my other devices which is a computer at work, my laptop, my pc at home.

i purchased this and synced it all, but i had duplicates on contacts. To solve, i deleted all my contacts on my phone but when i try to sync again, it says i've done it but no contacts show up on my Android Pro. Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

While the above may be issues for some people, I highly recommend giving MyPhoneExplorer a try. I have been using MyPhoneExplorer 1.8.1 to sync my android based MyTouch 4G with Outlook Calendar and Contacts on my computer using USB cable with no issues. If you're like me, you probably will never use any contact fields other than the 16 above, so you should be fine. Plus, this is a FREE program! The 2 things you need are MyPhoneExplorer on your computer and MyPhoneExplorer Client app on your android phone.

Remember that the default calendar entry type on android phones is google/gmail and google/gmail entries will not sync to your Outlook calendar. So, you just need to change your default calendar entry type on your phone calendar by going into your calendar options (when viewing your calendar, hit the menu button, select "more," then select "Calendars") and deselect the gmail option and select the "PC Sync" option. After I did this, I had no issues with 2 way sync btw my phone calendar and Outlook calendar.

just imported all my contacts it is very simple. enable the bluetooth on your phone connect from your pc to view the files.
open up outlook and select all contacts (distribution lists will not work) and from the file menu select send to bluetooth and select your phone which should already show up. that is it.

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate & Office 2007. Sync to the Android & Gmail has never been an issue. It's Free. I just now, searched Outlook's Help section and found that they now have fixed their sync issue of past, and it works, once you install the app from Microsoft for the Connector. Once done, I verified my phone against my desktop, all is matched perfectly. I will continue to test entering appoints on one side, then the other. This does also work in Thunderbird by Mozilla, except they came out with an update that disabled their iCal sync add-on.. so the developer, I'm sure, is having to catch up for the avid fans. Truly, no costs incurred to do this.

"GO Contact Sync Mod synchronizes your Microsoft Outlook contacts with your Google Mail address book, including pictures, categories and notes. Since version 3.5.6 it also syncs your Outlook Notes on demand to Google Documents. This Mod fork adds many enhancements and bug fixes to the obviously dead project 'Go Contact Sync'."

I use it with "Google Calendar Sync", yes its two programs but it works and its free!

I hope this helps

I just worked with Funambol and it worked brilliantly. I have 2000 contacts and lots of important notes in my outlook with each contact and it did all quite well.

I am wondering and curious if anyone knows here.. If I have a desktop, laptop and phone.. how to sync all of them with Funambol?

Anyone?

I am the author of a new sync utility for synching Outlook contacts with Gmail (and hence Android). I plan to get Tasks and Notes done as well, but for now Contacts sync has been implemented.

Gout is the name of the utility, and it is Free Software, released under GPL v3 license available on Github.

Since this is the first post I am unable to give links, but will do so in a separate post.

Outlook4gmail to sync your contacts

googlecalendarsync for your Calendar

Both are free, work with GMAIL and you can set the update frequency, I use them so I could sync my iPAD and after I get my Mesmerize in a few minutes I just need to tie it to my gmail account.

Greetings,

I have shared the sync frustration of many new android users.
My question is this....do ANY of the above options allow me to have 2 syncs going:
1) a direct android native app sync with an exchange server
2) a google or 3rd party app that syncs my calendar AND contacts (at least ) and hopefully my tasks and notes from a local PC-based Outlook install (PST file) via USB or wireless connection?

I was originally told that Companionlink would do it but "upon further review" after initiall syncing all the exchange and local PC based data would sync to each other. I need them to stay separate.

The free google app seems to only syncs calendars. The google app that syncs calendars AND contacts appears to only be available to business users? So everyone that recommends to "just use google" does not solve the problem of syncing calendar and contacts/tasks/notes..... Unless I am missing something.

Someone had mentioned that perhaps myphoneeplorer would work but that has not been verified. Also, I have the utmost respect for the poster who notes that myphoneexplorer does not sync some fields, but I might be able to live with that if it does everything else I need.

I am willing to pay for a solution but it appears that NONE of the paid sync solutions allow both syncs to work and keep separate.

Thanks for any help,
BJBBJB

i am a brand new droid user (was a faithful blackberry user for years) and i have been looking for something to sync my calendar and contacts and i finally found sync2 (www. sync2. com) sorry for the weird link, but i am a new user and can't post links. it syncs at regular intervals and also has the option to sync manually. it does both calendars and contacts, no usb connection required. the droid syncs to gmail, and sync2 takes the info back to outlook.

anyhow, so far it has worked for me, but i still find the whole thing lacking as compared to the blackberry's flawless syncing of tasks, notes, calendar and contacts.

just thought i'd throw that program out there since i haven't seen anyone mention it yet.

which app is this? And does it really sync contacts on outlook with gmail?

Thanks for this thread. Indeed i tried everything and in all of the free softwares, only this works.

If Gunner see my reply, suggest you add those software in 1# .

The only problem with googlecalendarsync, is that it only syncs the main calendar. So if you have multiple calendars, (e.g. meetings, classes, work, social events), they won't all sync.

I have this halfway solved. I use Outlook as a unified, single repository for calendar and contacts, so on the phone I "unselect" the Google Calendar and "Linked" all my contacts across Outlook and Google and Facebook, etc. This gives me Phone<->Outlook Syncing with the on-board sync. What is does NOT do is allow me to edit the data from my PC at home. I've set my work PC to "punch" the data to
Google, so at least it's there. I initially tried 2 way syncing betweern my work PC and Google, but I lost too many appointments and started getting double contacts, so I set it (GoogleCalendarSync and GOContactsSyncMod) to 1-way.

Calendar
MyTouch <-ExchActvSynch-> Outlook@WorkPC >-GoogleCalendarSync-> GoogleCalendar@Cloud <-GoogleTab-> Lightning@HomePC
^ Set to One-Way - it was deleting appointments!

Contacts
MyTouch <-ExchActvSynch-> Outlook@WorkPC >-GOContactSyncMod-> GoogleContacts@Cloud <-GoogleContacts-> Lightning@HomePC
^ Set to One-Way as precaution

I still need a way to edit Calendar and Contacts on my PC at home, and a way to "Merge" contact data (Google, Facebook, etc.) to Outlook Contacts....

Finally retired the 'ol Treo 700p and got a Rezound last Dec and made the mistake of installing the bundled HTC Sync app to my laptop. This is one of the worst programs I can recall, because of HTC but also Verizon. And it didn't do tasks or notes. It wouldn't uninstall completely and interfered with other apps (PdaNet, etc.) Finally had to do a restore from the base and rebuild :/

I've used Sync2PST for years to sync a local network .PST in sync between machines. The same folks now have Sync2 that is supposed to sync Outlook Cal and Contacts to Google but it didn't behave correctly for me. I am currently using Google's Cal Sync and it is working fine. So I'm interested in the experiences of others for something that does both Cal and Contacts. I actually prefer syncing through Google so I can use the phone's resident apps and I not important enough to worry about them having my data - and they are more reliable than FB, eh?

It's interesting to me that there is so little available to cover all the PIM info. I'm much more of a business than a social media user so maybe I just got the wrong phone. On the other hand, I love the HTC's screen.

Look forward to further inputs,
JRH
