OK,

Every time that I sync my phone to my laptop the sync icon status states "Disconnected" I have gingerbread on my phone, but even when I had the previous version I still could not sync. My phone is unmounted and debugged when I sync, but still states "Disconnected". On the HTC screen the "Synchronize now" is in gray" cannot click on it or Sync Manager. I have reinstalled it numerous times, but no success. What version should I use " HTC Sync Update for HERO (Sprint) (2.0.40)" or the one before it or if their is another one I should try.

plz help

I have also checked the drivers. The drivers are installed, but still no way that I can sync my phone (adding contacts that are new on my phone)

What are you trying to accomplish ?
If you see the little USB Icon at the top of the screen - drag your notification bar down.
Click USB Connected - then Turn on USB Stoorage - Should open right up?

I will be more specific. The HTC Sync icon that shows up at the bottom right side of my computer screen is in "GRAY not GREEN." When I click on it is states that it is disconnected. I have started from scratch and uninstalled and reinstalled HTC SYNC.exe version 2.0.40. All the update show up, but the icon still remains gray. I have no problems transferring files from my computer to the phone, but I just can't figure out why the HTC Sync icon on the bottom right of the screen stays in gray. Yes my anti-viruses are off and I have tried different ports and get the same results

You can automatically synchronize Outlook (or Windows Live Mail) email, contacts, and calendar with your Android device, as long as you have a Hotmail, MSN Mail, or Live email account. Just add it to the standard Android email app. Instructions are here.

Any contact or calendar items will have to be on your Hotmail/MSN/Live account and will not be synchronized with Gmail (which is arguably a good thing) or be searchable with Google Voice Search (which is not a good thing since it works better than the built in voice dialer) but you can still use those contacts to make phone calls, send emails, navigate, etc.

The caveat is that is that you need to keep your Outlook contacts and calendar events on a Hotmail/MSN/Live account in Outlook.
