Sync with Outlook

teeterbug

Newbie
I sync Outlook with my Note 3. I need the calendar so I had to find a third party app to do this. This app has been Myphoneexplorer (MPE). I have not had any problems with it until the Kit Kat update and have been having issues since. I am now looking for another program. I liked that I could text from MPE instead of my phone when I have it plugged into my computer.

What do you use to sync?

I use the default calender syncing to my outlook and aquamail for my email syncing to my outlook.

Default calender is really good. The default email program sucks which is why I use aquamail.

I use gsyncit to sync my pc outlook program with my phone calendar contact and notes over the Internet. No USB cable needed.

AdroidProf,

That solution will not work for me as it syncs wirelessly. I am synching with a desktop. I prefer to sync using a usb connection.

Vernon, take a look at this big list of sync solutions for Android http://www.syncdroid.net/ You should find something that meets your needs. I recommended AkrutoSync to OP, because he had problems when his phone OS was updated, and AkrutoSync works with every Android device, regardless of OS, updates, manufacturer, etc. If you have a Wi-Fi network, but connect your desktop via a network cable, it should still work.

You did not mention what phone you have, but there are plenty of USB solutions at the link that I gave you, so you should be able to find something that works for you.

AndroidProf.

I remember this chart and could not find a link in my bookmarks; thanks for providing the chart. I am using a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (VZW) rooted with Kit Kat 4.4.2; not using a custom rom. I will give AkrutoSync a serious look. Thanks again for the info.

This is a hot topic right now because as of yesterday, users are reporting that Google Calendar Sync is throwing Error 2016.

There are many 3rd party apps to fill the void. The right one for you depends on which specifics you value and the total cost of ownership.

Some things to factor in your decision:

- will one license purchase allow install on all of your PCs
- what are the support options (forum, email, phone, chat) in case you need help
- pricing
- how long has the company been in business
- is there a free trial
- is there a no-questions-asked refund policy
- what is the software update policy
- what other fields are synced (categories, contacts, tasks, etc)
- look for independent reviews

Here is a good article about some free and paid alternatives to the now-sunset Google utility:
How to sync Google Calendar with Outlook 2010 and 2013

Here is a recent review about the CompanionLink option: http://shar.es/LiTZ6

If you do choose CompanionLink, enter Affinity Code ALTGCS to save $10 on your transition from Google Calendar Sync.

Having been firmly Android/anti Apple for several years now, I feel my Nexus 4 will now be my last, a basic requirement for my phone is to be able to sync with my outlook calendar for work, if i cannot do this without having to resort to expensive paid apps, or complicated work arounds (I have spent most of today trying to get Outlook.com to work without mush success) then I will probably take the easy option with a Windows phone.

While I don't yet have experience with other android devices... like many of you, I have vast experience with sync issues... Hopefully the info below may help some, if not all. It is a copy of what I replied back to a support staff of CompanionLink. They are not without issues either...

Note: I did buy a 3rd party software (CompanionLink) because I still want the direct USB sync for privacy reasons... mentioned below...and similar to the other user post that had helped me...

The reply was...
Thanks, but what I have found "in action" is actually more similar to the experience of another user (see link below).

I have ultimately found the steps I listed below as well to work without issues consistently...

Maybe consider updating your support pages to provide this - it has been frustrating for at least a few months of resets and repeated one way "syncs"... and I have been on the verge of returning to a blackberry to be able to have a proper confidential and direct sync of data without going through a 3rd party indirect sync no matter how much it is promised to be secure (enough company's have been hacked and the end-user only really gets a notice and an apology while the private data still gets taken...)

here's the link that has helped me the most to figure this out...
http://androidforums.com/android-applications/402536-usb-sync-all-outlook-any-crm-data-android.html

I have (Motorola droid maxx hd, Android 4.4.2, DejaOffice 3.1.2, CompanionLink 5 - may be "fixed" in 6)

These are the steps I now take that I have ultimately found to work consistently and not cause issues (so far, and if followed religiously):
--establish any preferred settings for Sync in CompanionLink on the PC and in DejaOffice on the device
--ensure CompanionLink and MS Outlook are open (active and running) on the PC
--connect the device to the PC via USB cable
--turn CONNECT AS Media Device (MTP) "ON" by selecting "Settings" --> then "Storage" --> then "USB computer connection" from the menu drop down (usually in top right corner) --> then ensure box for "CONNECT AS Media Device (MTP)" is checked "on"
--open DejaOffice from main app icon and tap Sync icon (I no longer use any icon shortcuts at all)
--IMPORTANT: when Sync is finished, first tap Exit icon in DejaOffice, then turn "OFF" the CONNECT AS Media Device (MTP) = uncheck the box in settings section as above, then also Exit CompanionLink on the PC, then disconnect device from USB cable
--use device as usual, then repeat these steps every time to sync with Outlook through CompanionLink / DejaOffice

And yes... some of these steps may seem or actually be unnecessary, but having it function is more important to me than skipping an unnecessary step.
