synching with outlook

Hi everyone. I get my new S4 this week to replace my blackberry torch.

My calendar, contacts and notes are synced with outlook 2007 on my pc using blackberry desktop software. There doesn't seem to be a free version of a software to do the same thing for the android and the S4.

Is there a way (with paying out more money) that I can keep my S4 synced with outlook on my pc (ideally contacts, calendar, notes and tasks)?

many thanks!

Download Samsung Kies. Its basically the same thing but for Samsung phones. Another way is to use the cloud wirelessly, with contacts, calendar and notes going to Google then to your PC.

thanks for this. I use kies for my mum's ace - it doesn't cover notes or tasks unfortunately.

The cloud does seem to be one way to go but i've spent 3 days googling it and can't find a current guide on how to do it. Many of the methods involve google synching software that's not available any more. If you know of a current one relevant to my context I'd be very grateful to hear of it.

This seems like a huge oversight to me. I would have thought that android phones would have shipped with something that allows outlook syncing - they are both near the top of the popularity pile.

Kies covers Tasks if you are using the latest version of Kies and you have a newer Samsung Phone. The Galaxy Ace is a Samsung phone with Android 2.3 and did not have a tasks and notes app that could interface with Kies. Your S4 can do it because the SPlanner can interface with Outlook via Kies. Unfortunately I don't think you can sync notes to Outlook.

EDIT: You can use Evernote to sync between Outlook Notes and Evernote on your Android. That's a cloud based note sync.

Since you are using Outlook 2007, Go Contact Sync and Google Calendar Sync 0.9 will still work for you. They support up to Outlook 2010.

Thanks, Chanchan05 - I'll give those a try. Where can I find 'Go Contact Sync' and 'Google Calendar Sync 0.9'? I tried googling for them but I haven't managed to pin them down.

The problem really isn't an android problem the problem is with M$. Outlook is proprietary software and its not made for "The Competition".

This is true. For seamless syncing without need for tools like Go Contact Sync and Go Calendar, you can sync your phone's contacts and calendar and tasks to Hotmail/Live/Outlook.com email address instead of Google so that it syncs seamlessly to Outlook on your PC.

It arrived today!

delighted and needn't have worried.

Keis seems to intelligently offer syncing of whatever the phone has so in my case it's syncing notes and tasks too.

Thanks for your help everyone!

There's no option in Keis to sync notes. How did you do it?

you're right. it does everything except notes. at first it looked like it did everything.

i downloaded android-sync. it has its own tasks and notes apps which it syncs allong with contacts and calendar however its not perfect and i'm struggling a bit with notes' categories, folders and colours. android-sync advised me to disable kies but thats a real pain because kies does other stuff like media syncing and firmwhere upgrades etc.

kies would be fine if it included smemo but it doesn't.

thanks for this. I want a solution that doesn't require a connection to the internet - partly because i go places there is neither a signal nor connection and partly because i don't see why i should pay for data when it shouldn't be necessary (it worked fine on my blackberry - i can see me going back on next upgrade...)

I can't remember if you already mentioned that you tried MyPhoneExplorer? Its a program on your PC that syncs to your phone and Outlook. I've never used it but many people attest to it.

Blimey! I installed myphoneexplorer and it synced without asking my preferences and I've ended up with duplicates of all my contacts and it's added all my contacts, including photos, from linked in... which I didn't want!

Is there a myphoneexplorer help forum!

what a nightmare - I've actually got TRIPLE contacts. Some have an android-sync logo next to them. Bah!

OK, panic over. I can see they are being displayed from different accounts and I only have to see the ones I want. Hopefuly that'll make it easier to ged rid of some.
