Synchronizing Note 3 with Car Unit

Certain vehicle audio units allow for "Android Mirror Link" which let's you open certain apps saved on your phone right on your vehicle's GPS unit.

The specific unit I'm looking at is the Pioneer AppRadio 3

My concern is that all of these car radios are advertised as compatible with android phones up to version 4.2

Would they work with the Note 3 and it's 4.3 android versions?

Anybody using one of these units?

I am actually thinking about doing this. I have a relative who is a car audio dealer, so I won't be paying anywhere near retail. Honestly, I have read pretty poor reviews of the AppRadio Mirrorlink functionality with both Android and iPhone. Few apps are supported and those that are aren't supported well. However, I have read that Bluetooth streaming does work fairly well, with playlist/track info display working as it should.

My understanding is that you'll need Pioneer's Android connectivity kit and one other accessory. I have read for some of the Galaxies you need Samsung's 5 pin to 11 pin Mirror Link adapter (about $10 retail on Samsung's site), and for other Galaxies you need the MHL adapter (about $40 retail). I don't know which one is needed for the Note 3. Even then, it seems Pioneer doesn't guarantee compatibility, as their last compatibility update was in July to handle the S4 and some others.

Other avenues seem to involve rooting the phone and installing either AppRadio Liberator or AppRadio Unchained. I don't yet know the difference between the two. AR-Liberator seems to work very well, and makes any app able to be mirrored on the head unit's display.

If I were paying retail for the unit I'd sit tight and wait for someone else to try it.

Thanks big z. I found that pretty helpful. Looks like I'll be waiting until they come out with a 4.3 update... Although soon I'll have to worry about 4.4 compatability... :banghead:

PS. So you say you have a hook up on these units huh.... :D
