Help syncing contacts from phone memory?

Hi,

on my desire most of my contacts are stored on my phone, so when i sync contacts, they dont get uploaded to my gmail account, but the few that i have actually saved to my gmail account do.

I've recently got the galaxy nexus and tried to sync the contacts. It only pulled through the few that were saved to my gmail account.

my question is:-

How do i sync the contacts saved on the phone itself to my gmail account, so that when i sync on my nexus it pulls through all my contacts?

Export them to SD card and re-import them. When you reimport them, it will prompt you where you want to save them to. Chose your gmail
