Help Syncing Contacts to Google

cjl

Lurker
Apologies if this has been brought up before...

I've got loads of contacts on my Desire HD that were copied from my old phone and added manually. I want to start using Gmail to sync my contacts to to keep them safe, but nothing is being transferred to Google when I sync the phone. I'm probably doing something stupid so if someone could give me some assistance, that would be very helpful.

Thanks,
Chris.

Hi

As Harry has said already the issue is usually because the contacts are saved as "phone" rather than "google contacts".... the sync function can only search for G-contacts.

If they are all "phone" contacts then the best way to do it is to export your whole contacts list to yourself via .csv file (usually App Drawer > People > Menu > Import/export > Export to SD card). Then via your email app attach the file from your SD card and send them to your gmail account and save the file from there to your laptop/pc. Then in your gmail account (not the app version .. the full account on your laptop/pc) import the .csv file into your contacts list. Once you do that then you sync your phone and they should all be there on your phone :)

Hope that makes sense?

Then in future when creating or saving a new contact make sure you save as a G-contact.
