Help Syncing Contacts

Newbie
I have a Samsung Captivate, but I think this issue is only dealing with the Android Operating System and Gmail.

I have a Gmail Account, Facebook Account, and a University Email Account that I pull my contacts from. All three of them are synced with my phone. The University Email uses Gmail and Google apps. I am trying to figure out a way to sync all my contacts in one place, preferably my normal Gmail account. I understand that you can't auto-sync Facebook contacts to Gmail, but I would like to sync the contacts that I've added to the phone to my Gmail Account.

The phone won't sync contacts to Gmail that didn't begin on Gmail.

Best way is to export your phone contacts to a VCF file, then import the VCF file into Gmail, then delete your phone contacts.

When I create a new contact it asks me if I want it on my gmail contacts. I have no problem creating them. But I've since started using gmail contacts entirely and keeping nothing on my phone.

Edit: Sync...correct, my bad.

I've been trying to figure out how to do something like this too... I have duplicates of a bunch of people on my phone now after syncing with Gmail and want to "clean" up my contact book.

I'm guessing the best way to do this is as previously suggested?
1) Export phone contacts as VCF and save on computer
2) Delete all phone contacts
3) Import VCF into Gmail
4) Clean/organize Gmail contacts folder
5) Re-sync with phone

Is there a way to prevent random email addresses from importing to the phone during the syncing? It seems like any random person who i've ever emailed is in my contacts list... i don't want them there

Does anyone know how to completely delete all of the contacts on the phone?

I just put ALL of my contacts into gmail and sync'd with my phone again. It's even worse than i started since i updated a lot of the names... it kept old and new

So i'd like to just delete all of my contacts on the phone, but can't find a "delete all" option anywhere

Edit: downloaded Contact Remover from the app store and that did it.
