Help Syncing contacts

I recently got a HTC desire S. when i put my old sim card in it had all my contacts but they were formatted wierd. the names were wrong way round (no matter how i set the first/last name first) and they had a number on the end for example Tom Dean on my old phone would be Dean,Tom/1 Anyway i spent ages sorting this out editting them one by one. This may not be relevant to my query but thought i'd mention it just in case.

Anyway I want to sync all my contacts with facebook and gmail. I tried going through all the syncing in accounts and sync menu but it doesn't do anything. I can't view any of my phone conacts on my gmail, and the only reason i wanna do it is so i can have peoples facebook profile pics alongside there names in my phone. After my first sync with facebook it did show a couple of peoples facebook photos in the phonebook - these were only contacts whose names matched facebook exactly, and wierdly these have since gone, unsynced themselves somehow :/ and resyncing doesnt seem to do anything. Also i don't want peoples full names in my phonebook so i don't wanna change everyones name to their full facebook name.

Is there anyway of manually syncing a contact to a facebook profile, i've looked everywhere and at all the menu options and there doesn't seem to be any way of doing it.

I don't know why your contacts won't sync, but you can manually link them to get Facebook profile pics in your contacts.

Firstly, have you signed in to 'Facebook for HTC Sense' and not just 'Facebook' under accounts and sync in settings? This seems to be where all my pictures are held.

Secondly, it could be because your phone numbers are on the SIM card - have you tried moving them to the phone?

If this still doesn't suggest links with your contacts automatically, try this:

Go into the phonebook contact and click the 'link' symbol in the top right corner. Select 'Facebook for HTC Sense' and select the contact there, and it will link them under the name you first went into (the phonebook name, as you wanted) and show their Facebook picture.

im signed into both of those facebook thingys. i don't get why theres two... cant seem to find photos in there either.

how do u move contacts from the sim to the phone?

and when i look at a contact there is no link symbol at the top right...
