Syncing, gmail and battery life?

I'm curious, the second to the right option on the power widget is for syncing, correct? Is that what is used to automatically receive updates for Gmail and weather updates (I use beautiful widget)? If so, what is everyone's thoughts on its how it affects battery life??

Yes for GMail, but has nothing to do with Beautiful Widgets. That button basically changes the parameter found at Settings > Accounts & sync > Auto-sync

It's affect on battery life is nominal, at best.
