System update 2.2.3

I just NOW got an OTA update for my system. I checked in my phone, it is running 2.2.3 now (just looked the other day, it was 2.2.2).

First of all, I have no idea that I was going to get more updates, and second, what does it change? My phone seems a little faster, but since it rebooted to do it, it might just be because it shut down everything that was running. Time will tell.

Anyway, does anyone know what it changes exactly?

Mine finished the update just now...Hopefully it helps this POS to run better for a bit.....lol

As far as I can tell it addresses a couple of security issues. More importantly it prevents you from rooting your phone (if that's important to you).

According to the update notes it's a patch for some security bug. Doubt there are any new features in there

The security' update is merely patching the 2 exploits that were usable to root your phone.

If you apply this update, you'll have to re-root your phone, and there is a thread in the ATR section detailing that - but many are now reporting that that method does not, in fact, work, and that this update has definitively broken root.

Hate to be a pain, but looking in the "all things root" guide on this forum, which is the 'manual' method? I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty at all, I grok scripting and coding; I just want to make sure I'm on the correct path.

considering the problems I've had since the update I have been ready to root this thing.

been having trouble even with the basic things like trying to make an f'ing call. then last night my droidlight app was turning on and off all night long.

Can someone point me to step by step instructions on how to root my Droid 1 running 2.2.3 using my Mac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8? I've searched quite a bit so far and have not come across what I need. I have not rooted before, and I'd like some help. Everyone here seems to be the most helpful I've seen on most forums so I figured this would be the place to ask. All assistance is greatly appreciated.

I tried using mono and running SuperOneClick v 1.7 with the rageinthecage option and it failed, also failed using all other exploits in both the 2.3.3 version on SOC and the 1.7 version of SOC.
Each time I try I get "Automatic version checking failed, Is your OS 2.0 or higher?" with options of YES, NO, OR CANCEL. No matter what i choose, the process stops.

Is using mono the problem? I am willing to try anything manually or otherwise, I just need some guidance. Thanks in advance!
