System Update 2.27.651.6 (3.17MB) FOTA Available

What exactly have you experienced in terms of speed increases and better battery life since the OTA update? I know some people have said that the keyboard and dialer lag is better. But, this is the first time I heard battery life has improved.

I would love to see a detailed list of what precise speed and battery benefits you have witnessed since you updated. I probably will go ahead and update soon anyway.

I have started an OTA pro/con thread. I elaborated a bit on battery life.

Ok guys, I skimmed through these post and it seems a lot of you are wanting the ACTUAL 411 about this update, here it goes.

First of all let me explain that this update had NOTHING to do with HTC. THIS WAS ALL SPRINT !!!

2.1 Was master released by HTC, it is then up to all the cell phone providers to Redo the update and add all thier own Software and fixes. This 2.27.651.5 - .6 is exactly that.

as far as .6 goes, all it ACTUALLY does is " fix " the root exploit on the Hero and the EVO, also on the Hero it fixes the Phone dialer/phone call delay issue and an uncommon but still troublesome MMS issue. On the Evo, besides the root exploit being " fixed ", it also addresses a major SD Card issue and a known MMS issue.

THAT'S IT !

thus the OTA version only being 3 Megs.

Now as far as the supposed " Battery Performance Increase " this is not true, it's just based off of how you use you phone ( like it always has been unless you use a custom ROM and/OR power management App )

Now there is a Slight increase in overall speed, but that's just because of the fix to the phone service I mentioned ealier, so it's not using as much Processor speed.

Now I am in personal contact with the guy who came up with the "UNREVOKED " root exploit for 2.1 that was based of the Evo and implemented to the Hero. So if you have any questions, feel free to hit me up on google talk: aarronwbittick@gmail.com

Also if you do get this update and want to root, just reflash the 2.27.651.5 update and redo the unrevoked exploit. Then there are custom roms built off of the 2.27.651.6 release that won't unroot your phone.

Also I recommend using an awesome rom like Fresh 2.1.2 and if you want, apply an overclok kernal so you can overclock your phone. I have mine overclocked to 710 Mhz, I DO NOT recommend going any higher as this will freeze your phone.

Well that's it folks. I hope this helps.

Weird, this update was just pushed to my phone last night and looks like everyone got this back in June?!!?

Does Sprint has any info on their website on what the details of this update does? I tried to do a search and didn't find any info.

thanks

I tried updating my phone, but after my phone restarted itself to install the update, there was a black screen with a android guy and a triangle and then it said that the installation was aborted.

The old CARROT & STICK technique... bottom line is read the fine print, BUYER BEWARE, Caution - GREEKS BEARING GIFTS, lol, etc., etc., etc.

I recommend NEVER rushing to update your phone when one is out, at least until a few days later or official word is out as to the purpose of the update. But yes, word is, it closes the ROOT method for 2.1

Understand this... the EVO comes with capability that Sprint is looking to profit off of and increase revenue. The ROOT process grants access to some of those features and bypasses their revenue stream. They will be very aggressive in patching future exploits of the phone, of this you can be sure. As such... these Hero's WITH Root capability, might just hold their value for a very long time ;) hehehehe...

Regards!
I will be very agressive in moving off of Sprint and avoiding HTC phones in the future.
