Help System update doesn't [update]

Twice now I've had a message saying there's a new system update available. I've let the phone download it (using wi-fi), then it needs to switch off and restart.

When it comes back on there's a great big red triangle with an exclamation mark on the screen, which I presume means the update failed.

I can't then do anything with the phone except remove the battery in order to get it going again.

What's going on here?

I got this sent phone back too HTC they repaired it for free.

I had something similar with the upgrade over Christmas. I think it was down to the fact I had very limited space left on the phone's internal memory. After I cleared some more space it upgrade appeared to work.

Last time I did an OTA update it needed 25mb to install. You get this back it just needs it free at the time

Sorry not to respond - didn't get email notification of answers, and have been too busy to check site.

No, phone not rooted.

There's 119MB free internal memory, and 5.86GB available on the SD card.

How long did you leave it for? These things can take half an hour or so (Froyo did form me anyway) and often reboot the phone a couple of times.

Red triangle doesn't sound like its part of the process though but I'm no expert since I went over to the dark (custom rom) side.

How long did you leave it for? These things can take half an hour or so (Froyo did form me anyway) and often reboot the phone a couple of times..

It downloads OK, then reboots so it can install. About a third of the way it freezes - that's when the red triangle happens.

It happened again this morning. I sent an email to HTC; they phoned me back a few hours later. They said my phone is Taiwanese (yes, I bought a cheapie online from an Australian distributor who obviously sources the phones in Taiwan - I thought it had come from Singapore) and that it's trying to download the local update which will only work on Australian phones.

The guy told me he'll log the problem with the Taiwan office and I should be able to get something that works from their website.


By the way, I have heaps of internal memory, so that has nothing to do with the problem.
