Help System update problem

hi all expert, i have a problem trying to do the system update from 4.183 to gingerbread. my atrix is only rooted, haven't touch any ROM. and when im trying to do a system update, once i tap on it, it will do a update search but and then it flashes back to the setting's menu screen.

can anyone give me some help? i've already un-rooted it by using "gingerbreak". thanks for any suggestion!
 
i've chat with motorola tech, they said once the phone is rooted, it will not be able to any more update... any help to get me through it? im an android dummy... sorry guys

that shouldn't be true, my phone was rooted before the gingerbread update and it still updated my phone. Also the update removes root anyways.

do you know what causes the problem of mine? i clicked on the "system update" and all it does was searching for a split second and the went back out to the "about phone" menu...

My guess is that you messed around, or the rooting messed around, with settings. Unroot and check it out.

BTW, I don't mess with this type of stuff. I've had my atrix bone stock and never ever had a problem with it.

thanks, i'll try again... but besides root, nothing has done to the phone... :(

i used gingerbreak to unroot. finally i found a way to do the system update. i downloaded the "update from PC" file from motorola website. and connected my phone to the computer and use the PC to "force" update the system file. it worked for me, wiped out my "gingerbreak" and able to upgrade to gingerbread now.

after it is updated, i reinstalled the gingerbreak and re-root my phone and so far phone is working flawless =)
