Hi. I Just had my SGY updated. I was wondering whether the "additional updates installation" is normal? Ive liked, rebooted my phone a number of times because after every update, it keeps telling me that there is another update which needs to be installed. Are there really that many "updates" in one update? Thanks!

This worked for me. Wipe cache. Date back and forward. Few minutes later reprompted for System Update. Boom. Worked.
(I had previously been working at removing unused applications, moving some to SD, clearing unused data, etc. but nothing worked until cache wiping.)
ETA: and at 2am the next day after this update, DROID DROID DROID.... the multiple reboot issue. Must have done this 15 times before it stopped. It was like 5 reboots, 5 minute wait, 5 more reboots, 5 minute wait, etc. I just turned the volume down and flopped it over face down so I couldn't see the white reboot screen and went back to bed.
So I'm tired of getting the pop up for this update and decided to follow the instructions above on how to Wipe cache partition to clear system memory. It went smoothly.
Now I'm just waiting for the update to show up again. Will post back.

Both phones I have did the update but are still in the boot loop.
Phone 1 after a month was working correctly again until last week, and now it has started the boot loop again.
Phone 2 has never gotten past the boot loop.
Iphones may not be what im looking for, but more than likely are going to be what I buy when iphone 5 is released.
I hate everything about apples policies and preaching, but the phones are not running 10 different versions of upgrades.

Get a nexus branded device and you can be running the latest OS a couple days after its released. I bought a Verizon galaxy nexus and will never look back. Had ICS on release day and jelly bean 3 days after it was announced.
As I mentioned in my post above, on 8-25 I followed the instructions above on how to wipe cache partition to clear system memory.
Last night 8-27 I got the update prompt to install Software 4.08.605.15 710RD. This matches the update. (see prev pic I posted in this thread)
After the update I noticed this new app associations, is this new or was this here before?
Go to Menu>Settings>Applications>App associations>There is a list of 8 items to set default apps for some tasks.
I have 3 Browers on my phone, the HTC default, Dolphin HD and the new Dolphin Beta that is why these are showing.
Just a couple things since this update installed a few days ago.
I can confirm that my phone is rebooting by itself for the past 2 nights. It happens exactly around 2:00 am. I believe it continues for about 10 mins then stops. I use the extended battery 2150mh so there is no loss in battery when i check it in the morning. Someone said HTC told them there are several updates so maybe this is why its rebooting.
The other thing is I have noticed my phone is working a bit faster on 3G network since the update. Before my 3G would drop connection and so far its been spot on and quicker downloading webpages. My bet is this update was slowing things up for me each time I chose to ignore the install prompt.
Besides the rebooting at 2:00 am phone works great otherwise.

Mine keeps prompting me and I have tried it many times. It never gets past the screen after it gives the 10 second reboot countdown.

Mine was doing the same thing. Never went beyond saying it was rebooting, but never did.
I wonder if this isn't because I was running Hboot 0.9200 and the "updated" Hboot is 1.07 or something like that. It doesn't appear to be really a software update. Gingerbread is the last supported version of Android for the Dinc, as fas I know. There is no ICS for the Dinc, nor will there be.
Rooting was the best thing I ever did. No more VZ crappware, no more OTA system "updates".
Seems this update was pushed out to a bunch more of us last Sunday. Like others, I got stuck in the reboot loop. Mine continued for hours, phone wouldn't respond to attempts to silence it, turn down volume or shut it down and I finally ended up pulling the battery so I could get some sleep.
Next day I had a multitude of problems with the phone - none of my apps will launch, I get constant popup messages that all of the google processes have stopped unexpectedly, sync is 'not available but will be back soon' so I have to manually download my mail, I can't access secure websites, the clock is wonky and the battery is draining at an incredible rate (pun not intended). Tried wiping the cache, tried uninstalling and reinstalling nonfunctioning apps but I can't download anything from the Marketplace, tried pulling the battery. Finally got Verizon on the phone. The update had never finished installing and they had to redo it. Went through the reboot cycles (normally), still nothing worked. Spent hours troubleshooting with them yesterday and again today, finally they transferred me to HTC. Went though troubleshooting with HTC, they finally decided it's a Google problem. They had me go through the Google Checkin process and said that now I have to wait 24 hours to see if that will fix things. After I did the Google Checkin things got even worse...now when I try to surf the internet I keep getting Data Connectivity error messages. If Google Checkin doesn't resolve the issue by tomorrow the next step is to do a factory reset. Basically nothing works right now except the ability to make and receive phone calls.
I don't understand why they continue to push out this update three-four months after people started reporting problems if they haven't fixed it. Some people on the HTC forum were reporting the 2-5am reboots nightly for over two months.
HTC just posted a solution to the reboot loop problem on their website one week ago 10 October. It is to pull the SD card and do a factory reset, leaving the card out for at least 24 hours.
I'm not sure who I'm mad at, but I'm mad as heck at someone.

My retired Dinc just recently was put into service for an emergency replacement for my youngest... she is loving it. It never had any trouble with any of the pushed upgrades... I suspect that's why they continue to push them. Most units were able to take the update without problems.

This should be my last update on this thread, sorry I never got back here but wanted to let you know what I ended up doing with my Orig Inc.
If you read my posts above, I wiped cache partition to clear system memory, installed update, phone did end up rebooting every night around 2:00. I wanted to correct my prior post that it really ended up re-booting more like 2-3 hrs every night. So it would start like 2:00 am and would sometimes go till 4:00 am. During the day, the phone would lock up, get really slow, sometimes not even connect to 3G and was just working really weird.
I've had my phone since it launched 2 yrs ago (phone has never been roooted), I am very familar with these system updates. So instead of calling Verizon or HTC and wasting my time, I decided to do a factory reset. Yes, it's a pain but I knew I had no choice because back then I was still undecided what new phone I wanted. (Today I am still undecided, looking at either the Razr M or Razr HD Maxx or iPhone 5)
So since all my contacts were already backed up, I did a factory reset, lost alot of my apps but it was the best thing I did for my phone. After the reset, my phone was actually better than it ever has been. It is now faster and I'm back to loving my phone, this is why it's so hard to leave my phone cause I still love it.
So all in all I am glad I did this update and then glad I factory reset. I even feel that my battery is more efficient.
I can say since my Orig Inc was my first smartphone, these android updates have not always been easy, never user friendly, one of the reasons I'm thinking of going to the iphone but being an android user for over 2 yrs I'm wondering if I can adjust to a new OS system.
