Root System update

Ok, so I decided to go ahead and run the RUU to try the update and see what, if any, improvements I see, but after running the RUU and rebooting, I don't get any notice for an update. What do I do to attempt the update manually? Thanks

Can't remember exactly, but it's in an obvious place like Settings>System Updates.

I would just use the firmware that ramjet posted here: 2.95 firmware

Using the OTA update will give you hboot 1.58

Updating to hboot 1.58 is NOT recommended for the time being, s-off or not. Luckily I saved you before you could

yea I guess I will definitely hold off since I'm S-On. What about flashing the ROM posted thta includes the update? Is it safe to try or not?

It depends on the rom, it is definitely safe to try because roms don't include firmware or hboot. If it bootloops, then it may not work for you. Just because one rom doesn't work, doesn't mean another won't. Trial and error. I do highly suggest getting s-off status, it is really worth it!

I am in the process. Something is wrong with my computer. I have 64 bit Windows 7 but the drivers won't install for me to run ControlBear. It starts up but hangs on the testing adb connection screen

did you try running as admin?

Here are the drivers: Win7_x64.zip

unzip anywhere

Go to control panel > device manager

right click on your phone (unknown or myhtc) go to properties

go to the driver tab and click update drivers

click browse for drivers

locate the folder you unzipped and select next

I could not get ControlBear to work until I used Ubuntu booted off a 2 gig USB key that really isn't useful for anything else. Windows is no longer supported officially.

FWIW, I am presently running a rooted version of the stock ROM with the March, 2013 OTA completely installed. It is S-Off, Jbear hboot 1.58.5858 and 4ext recovery. After freezing 40 plus apps (mostly obvious stuff) and deleting the horrendous bolt sound and red boot animation for something a bit more calming, it is pretty good. I miss sweep to wake and the status bar battery icon isn't informative. The browser is very good. The setup isn't quite as slippery as Harmonia with Mac at 1512 mhz, but it is fast enough. It is probably as fast as Midnight 1.54 with its default 1296 mhz setting. Memory usage is very low, 332 MB right after booting up.

From the discussion here and in other threads there are many issues to be addressed for developers who want to build off the updated system. None of the custom kernels have worked for anyone, I tried Mirage and it looped. It is said that Leedroid Tweaks will not be compatible. Negaman has had problems with WiFi breakage. You also have to observe that many developers have moved on to JB projects and it is late in the game for this device.

I have only had it up for a day, so I will have to see what happens.

I don't know how you managed to loop, nobody reported it before. WiFi is also not broken as long as you can follow the simple instructions in my OP. If you are talking about compatibility of Leedroid with MiRaGe, it was never meant to be compatible. If not, never mind ...

thank you soooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D

Finally updated the phone!!! :D

Congratulations! I was afraid of more trouble, but that was it huh? Good job updating your rooted phone without RUU.

Yep!! Whew! All I wanted to do was update, what a hassle it was just being rooted with regular stock.

I finally figured out how debugged was modified too. After I updated I wasn't rooted so I had to flash superuser again. Then I went into link2sd to mount my 2nd partition on my sd card it didn't want to mount saying debugged..text file is busy. So I went back to the old debugged file and it mounted successful.

After I rooted last time first thing I did was mount the 2nd partition on my SD card. So mounting the 2nd partition via link2sd modified the debugged file.

With respect to Leedroid, some around here have said the library's which Leedroid patches have changed and Leedroid is unlikely to work with the new OTA, regardless of the kernel used.

My experience with Mirage was with negaman's roms, and not my own setup. It appears to have worked for you. Others are reporting borked WiFi with Buttered Toast and Anthrax. I could give Mirage another whirl. How is your WiFi working?

Please use Flash Image GUI to flash the kernel if you want to try again. You can find the link in the OP. There is another package if you want to return to stock kernel. And,WiFi is working excellent. I would recommend the test kernel I have posted yesterday at the end of the thread. Since it is being tested I have not posted in the OP yet. But I am almost completely satisfied with it and waiting for 3.0.70 to package as stable. It has the Autogroup CPU scheduler enabled. Good luck, if you don't flash in the recovery, there shouldn't be any problem with Flash Image GUI. Actually, it is more convenient to use since you skip booting into recovery. Flash in the ROM and reboot, that is all.

I tried it with 4ext and that boot looped. I have flashimageGUI around here, let me see. Be advised that my phone is not the best example around. It does not like jbear 1.50.5050.

You don't need to be S-OFF with Flash Image GUI, it very conveniently bypasses S-ON. My phone is still S-ON :)

What is s-off and s-on and how do I know which category I fall into?

You don't need to be S-OFF. My phone is still S-ON :)

Well, I happen to be S-Off, which really is not needed for the setup I have now, but it was needed for the journey to get to where I am now.

Thank you for your instructions because flashimagegui did work. WiFi is showing a strong signal, but I am sitting near the base station.

Boot into bootloader? I guess I'm more noob than I thought. Lol

IMHO, you are okay but HTC is more complex than it needs to be :)

I knew it. Hope you like it. If not the restore package is there as well.

So you were the culprit, huh?

Will flashing the firmware only zip file that ramjet posted cause any problems if I'm on g60's CM10.1 ROM? :)
Edit: Flashed it with no problems, thanks for the zip ramjet :D
