looks like the update is not available anymore, when i click on look for update, it says there's none to be found so i called my sprint store and they said sprint may have taken it down to investigate.

Yup. Phone won't power on at all. Had a pretty disturbing experience with Sprint corporate store near my work because they tried to do a "switcheroo" with my phone and put a black battery in my phone.

I went back to have them give me a red one and they initially tried to claim that they had "no red batteries" back there, when I was just there 30 minutes prior. SHADY!

Now, I'm without a phone until Best Buy gets more in stock and who knows when that'll be. This is annoying, but nothing I can do except be patient.

Yeah, at this point I'm going to just wait for a new one at best buy/radio shack and for the time being switch back to my palm pixi on sprint ha
 
Installed update everything working fine, it did ask if I wanted to update again after the initial reboot but I figured since it was rebooting the update had not registered yet (Obviously there are not going to be 2 updates in a row). Declined the update waited for everything to load then checked for updates and it said no updates available.

So far loving the update seems like all the little quirks I had are gone, Internet speed got a nice upgrade as well. Big Thumbs Up here! The phone is damn near perfect now, can't wait for Froyo! That is the only thing that could possibly make this phone any better!

Kinda sucks because I don't have another phone to use right now. Apparently, Best Buy has a program where you can get a loaner phone, but it requires a "deposit" that's refunded when your replacement phone comes in. Just seemed like more hassle than I wanted, so I'm just gonna prepare the phone, put it back in the original box, and keep it in my car so that when they do get more in stock, I can make a quick trip to get it exchanged.

So strange being completely phoneless.

Phone wont turn on no matter what you do.. once the phone becomes bricked it wont power on... just like my Evo...it is now a very fancy paperweight indeed.

attempted to power on via power button - Failed
Attempted to connect to PC via cable - failed
Attempted to connect to power cable - Failed
attempted to power cycle - failed
attempted to boot to bootstrap( holding volume rocker while boot) - failed
Attempted to remove Micro SD card and boot - Failed

Yep it is officially proclaimed to be BRICKED..when the phone becomes bricked...it is during the installation when the phone suddenly shuts off while installing the update

Yeah luckily I still have my palm pre, the sucky part is, i'm going to lose all my contacts/sms history etc oh well

similar story to mine..had to activate this old BB tour and i had to do a security wipe...well the sprint Rep did and now i lost EVERYTHING....i feel like a man who went from Hero to Zero in just one day

this morning 8am - had his all mighty evo and a great mood. Was focused and ready for class. anticipating an OTA to fix some of the evo issues and enforce his evo's BROLICNESS

this evening 5pm - has LOST EVERYTHING... back on a blackberry tour and deffinitly feels the lost.. Small screen, limited functionality, lost ALL contacts and APPs on blackberry.

I will be back on the Evo...i just wished it didnt happen to mine..i like the Old screen of hardware Version 2... now i gota wait two weeks for Sprint to Revoke my contract since i returned radioshack the defective evo under their policy and got my money back..awaiting for the contract to be revoked so i can begin to stalk out BB and buy a unit there.. They are taking preorders for the white evo..but it looks retarted compared to the all black evo..ahh well Hardware 4 should be floating around by that time..hopefully HTC got their heads in the game by then

Today is probably the worst my battery has ever been. Unplugged around 7AM, downloaded the update and restarted around 9:30AM. Time since I updated is now 9hrs 18mins and I'm at 8% battery left. Tells me I have about 50 minues of battery time left. So I'm looking at about 12 hours with pretty light usage.

3 phone calls of no more than 5 minutes each. 1 text. Checked my email 4 different times. And about 30-40 minutes of web browsing (stock browser, reading these forums). No games, no video.

Very similar use has gotten me 18-20 hours in the past.

Only thing I did different was download the update. Hope it gets itself back into shape tomorrow after I charge it back to full again.

This happened to me too. You have to re-disable Google Talk. Launch the app, sign out, and you're golden.

Since I did that, battery life has been amazing. I've been at 100% for like 20 minutes and counting...I never, ever, EVER stayed at 100% for more than 10 seconds before.

I'm in the same boat... same usage pattern, same (previous) battery life, and also noticing significantly reduced battery life now after installing the update.

Edited to add: Just want to mention... I signed out of (and properly exited) Google Talk immediately after installing the update. It's something else that's causing the battery drain.
 
I'm another exception to this whole Brick situation.

My phone asked me if I wanted to update, I said Yes.

It downloaded, and then about 15 minutes after it finished downloading, it finally came up asking to install the update. I said Yes, Install Now and it installed. It sat on the "4G" start up screen for a few minutes, but then everything is back to normal.

I don't notice any difference.

On a side note, my dad who is also on the forums has yet to receive any notification about an update on his EVO ... and when he goes to check for a new Firmware Update, the phone says No New Version.

Any ideas? He is a bit nervous though about all of you saying it bricked your phone, that he is more than likely going to pass on the update.

I actually noticed this too. Complicating things is i was in a known poor signal area that naturally kills my phone anyway. But when I left that area the battery still was dropping. I had excellent battery before.

Will try the google talk signout and see if that helps.

Same here. Looks like HTC pulled the plug before they brick most of the Evo population. I wonder how many people were bricked today (that are not on this forum). Someone really screwed up over there.
