If You Shop on Thanksgiving, You Are Part of the Problem | Matt Walsh

I won't do it. I hate crowds and rude people. Football on all day, and can watch a baseball game, too, if I feel like it. (I have MLB) Don't have to cook. Don't have to do anything until Skype with kid. I read tutorials for hobbies while watching football.

The buy, buy, buy mentality gets me. Especially with no reason. If it makes your life easier, or is a definite improvement, that's one thing. If it's because you are already bored with a new toy, that's another. Go learn something, anything, to use your mind instead of wanting to be entertained.

I'm starting to see articles about binge buying. How to avoid it, why you are doing it.

I worked in receiving and package pickup at Sears for like three years. That was enough to cure me from ever wanting to be near a retail place on the Thanksgiving weekend sales. I won't do any shopping all weekend even groceries..

Have to work in the morning and then head out to visit family for T-Day. Spending the night there as well. Won't be any shopping on my end. Already made all my Xmas gifts for family and don't need to buy anything for myself. :)
Whoever wants to line up for BF can have it! :p

I've never shopped on Black Friday and won't shop on Thanksgiving. Nope. I get most of what I need/want online, I hate shopping in general so avoid it at all costs.
I'll go to my sister's for Thanksgiving, eat and visit then head home and stay home 'til Saturday!
I worked at a convenience store for a lot of years way back when, they were open for every holiday. I didn't mind that, everyone had to work for a few hours so it was fair (and sort of fun actually). I'd really not like having to work in a mall on Thanksgiving though, there's a difference between someone forgetting milk and needing it and someone thinking they need a good deal on a game boy.

I did a stint in a nursing home. Worked the holidays. Didn't mind too much.

Still working on Xmas gifts. Can turn on my TV in craft studio and watch football from there.

Who is worse on these sales days? Men or Women?
Years ago, department stores would hold a real bargain day, and the women would almost riot. Did a craft store once as daughter wanted to go, mostly women, and the pushing, shoving, and general rudeness was incredible. Cured me of wanting to go anywhere. Even the roads get bad with people hauling butt to check out other stores.

Black Friday or holiday sales is an illusion at most part. You can find better deals during the year when stores are empty. I read an interesting article last year, I doubt I can find it, but they were comparing prices during the year andon black friday sale. Turned out you can buy UGG's cheaper at summer, car for less affer Christmas, and cheap tv before Superbowl.

I went to target yesterday, there was this guy with a kart full of Turkey, I mean, like 20 turkeys in there them at like $20 eash one. Thats like, like.... ughhhhhhhhhhhhh

I bet he is donating them...to a shelter or soup kitchen, church,etc...I just did the same thing! I bought one...and then donated one:)

I don't partake in the Thanksgiving sales, but I have taken part in black Friday a couple years and I don't mind it. If you have a problem with a business being open on a holiday don't shop there, and don't work there.. I have never once heard anyone complain about the fact that most gas stations, and some family restaurants remain open on specific holidays.. but of course when a big corporation does it (ie target or walmart), its everyone's business and they need to be shunned..

So my honest opinion is its up to the morals of the business to decide, not for the people that hate the corporations.

I know we're derailing at this point. One of my last jobs in a bakery we closed nearly every major holiday. Since the bread production started a day out, we still had to be there. Had tons of fun, made some food for ourselves, blasted music as loud as we wanted, etc.
(also paid time and a half which was great)
I sympathize with anyone in the hospitality industry where people rely on them to be open during holidays. I rarely expect to have ANY holiday off work (and in fact I'll be working both T-day and Xmas this year), so my heads off to any of them.
Done Black Friday once, and just don't have a need to anymore. My family is basically beyond buying gifts for each other, so a card, phone call, anything is all I care about (obviously spending actual time with them is best when possible).

Each person celebrated his own holidays in his own way. There is none better than another. Celebrate your own unto your God and you're fine. Let no one act as your judge. (rough translation from the Apostle Paul.) :))))

The only things I plan on doing this holiday weekend are binge eating and binge drinking.

Happy turkey day everybody!!

I don't hit Women so that is why i don't partake in Black Friday Shopping .... the last time i did it was at a Wal-Mart and a lady ran right over my foot with a cart and then looked at me like it was my fault .... no excuse me or nothing but just an Evil look in her eyes

I hate crowds. So naturally I don't like to go shopping on Black Friday. My heart goes out to the employees at retail locations who will not be spending much time if any at all with their families just so we can fill our materialistic hunger.

Besides, I never usually see anything I want to buy.

EDIT: For those planning to go, be sure to remember your tasers, knives, pepper spray, guns, etc. and may the odds be ever in your favor.
