Get the Cyanogenmod installer, root with that.
The recovery sucks ass, so put CWM with ROM Manager to have a functional recovery.

Then, you're rooted with a recovery and you can do it without much interaction on your part. You can set it, go do some stuff, come back and do some stuff and be ready to go. =)

I hope I am not turning this into a preference game but I think it is much more simple just to root with ODIN. All you really do is have 1 file that you flash on to your phone and book custom recovery.

If it is TWRP - the Super User SU binaries are actually incorporated into the recovery and it will install them for you. From there just install the app and it is win!

I looked into the CM installer and I don't think I will be trusting that just yet!
