T-Mobile Kit Kat is here!

I'm using a Ringtone program - seems to be working,

Any time the phone reboots "Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped.

I left vzw - took the ETF - best move ever, Unlimited data. Billing cycle begins the 9th - sitting @ 20 GIG pf data so far, VZW wasn't a problem - no reception at work!

Just installed Kit Kat today manually through the LG PC Utility. Maybe it is a placebo effect but i dare say the phone is even faster than before. The battery life has been the same. Been using it for 5 hours now with 1 hour screen on time and constantly listening to music and the battery is at 75% at mid day. I am a very happy G2 owner right now.

dportal2006: can you say what in particular seems faster? I presume you used the utility because you didn't have a notification when you checked that it was available?

Yes, i kept checking manually and it kept telling me my phone was up to date when i knew it was not. The curiosity got the best of me. It only took me like 20 minutes to download the PC utility, the update and then install it.

Anyways, i feel like the browser (Chrome) is even smoother and faster than it was before. It is a very small difference. I would honestly have to look at it side by side. Anyways besides that i can't see any other feature on Kit Kat. Besides the ability to print documents is there any other difference?

there is printing in the previous version.

I disabled chrome.

jealous we on vzw don't have it yet. enjoy.

I'm hoping system button management for full screen is better and responsiveness stays great even as you try to load the phone down. other than that, I'm not expecting major changes.

It is beyond me how the most expensive network in the United States always takes the longest to release the updates.

a couple of things different I noticed were:

the all-white top notification bar
the different choices in the page transitions
the weather animation on my lock screen is pretty cool

overall just a lil smoother and faster

still quite happy with it..just the breath of fresh air it needed

i'm not sure why it takes VZW so long either. i hope it's not taking them longer because of bloatware, or a problem with KitKat and wireless charging. :D

Has anyone else received the OTA update? (Looks like only one person in the thread so far) I've been manually checking many times a day since Monday and so far no luck.

I received notification from t-mobile that upgrade was available. Upgrade took about 11 minutes and another 3 minutes to upgrade apps. So far everything is working fine. Battery life is much better and some cosmetic changes make this upgrade a must have.

Sounds great. Insane to think the battery life is even better with this upgrade! I wonder if your location helped being T-Mobile's headquarters are in the same area? I guess I'll just have to be content with waiting, knowing I'll get the update sometime in the next three weeks. Although, I'm sure my OCD will continue and I'll keep pressing the manual "check for updates" button many times a day until it arrives. :D

Have you tried checking with the LG PC Suite?

I keep checking my t-mobile lg g2 every five minutes, settings, about phone, updates, system, check now, I'm getting nothing. Shouldn't it be available by now via this method?

p.s. I have a mac so I can't use the pc method.

Not yet. I was going to use the pc suite this weekend, but then the news came out the OTA update was ready Monday. May have to try it if I don't get the update in the next few days. What's the difference between the OTA and LG PC Suite? I figured the OTA was safer (and more "official") should something go wrong. Kind of new to this (all my other software updates have been pushed to me OTA in the past).

OTA is 140mb download. PC suite is a 1.5gb ROM.

The OTA sounds like a better idea then.

I saw a screenshot on another forum of the OTA notification message and it says something like, "Available via Wi-Fi only through March 13." Not sure how the OTA is staggered so maybe those of use who haven't received it will have to wait until at least the 13th, and if not then the 20th (I believe the T-Mobile software support page for the G2 said the update was through March 26th).

I went with the ROM install. After I got everything I needed, the update took less than 10 minutes to complete.
