Root [T-Mobile] Official update if you're rooted?

Well, I have a Samsung Galaxy s3 from T-Mobile (I know this is MetroPCS but T-Mobile is dead. It's a general question anyway) It isn't rooted as of yet.
But since the official JB update is coming to T-mo I was wondering if when you root your phone you can update an official update OTA or via Kies?

I believe a custom recovery might hinder ota updates. I know with lg we could just update through the computer. Not sure about Samsung tho.

I've heard you have to install stock recovery in order to. I just want to be sure.

A custom recovery can cause the ota to fail. Its easy enough to put the stock one back on if that becomes an issue

so by putting the stock recovery back we can update ota or kies?

Yes with Stock Recovery, updating should not be a problem. The latest version of Kies requires Stock Recovery also. Force update for Kies.
